Using the Trash Conlpactor
Compactor
Loading
Slightly lift and pull tile compactor door
handle or press tile fl)ot pedal and pull tile
drawer otlt.
Remember:
, To help keep tile ram clean when compacting
messy food waste, place a couple of flilded
sheets of newspaper on top of tile load to be
compacted.
" Items too bulky to go into tile drawer can be
folded to fit. If it cannot be fl)lded to fit into
the drawer, do not attempt to torce it in.
, Folded newspaper is also helphd when
compacting a large glass bottle, or several
bottles or jars, or any other items that might
shatter.
, Although it is not necessary to compact until
the drawer is hdl or nearly lull, we suggest
that, fin" maximum compaction, you start tile
compactor each time a significant amount of
trash is added.

To start the compactor:
1. Turn tile knob to ON.
2. Make sure tile drawer is fllllv closed.
3. i,itt tile toot pedal up to start cwle.
Tile ram travels downward into tile
drawer, colnl)acting tile trash. At tile bottoln
of the stroke, the rain autolnaticallv reverses
direction, retracts ()/it of tile drawer, returns to
its starting position, and the colnpactor shuts
off automaticallv.
The cycle takes less than 30 seconds. As the
trash drawer fills with trash, cycle tilne gets
progressively shorter.
NOTES:
• You will not see compacting of trash the
first few times you load. Tile compactor
drawer should be about 1/2 till befln'e tile
compactor can begin to compress tile load.
• Glass bottles cm_ make a loud noise when they
break during compaction. This is nomml.
Also, bottles in the trash drawer will not
alwavs break durii_g the first cycle. Breaking
glass and associated noise inav occur several
cvcles latei; dei)ei_ding on the type and
vohune of tile trash.
• When bottles and cm_s are compacted,
small tears in the bag may occur. This is
noi'ulal and ill no wav affects tile [)ei'lOi'iilance
of tile colnpactor. Kee I) tile bag away fl'om
vour body to prevent ii_jury fl'oln sharp
objects that inay have pierced the bag.
CAUTION:
• Do not apply too much force when turning
the knob. Tile knob should always rotate
easily. Forcing may break tile knob and
dalnage the switch,
• When emptying waste baskets into the
trash drawer, some items may spill into the
cmnpactor behind the drawer, Itelns behind
tile drawer could prevent it fl'oln closing
colnpletely and prevent tile compactor fl'Oln
operating. To remove such items fl'oln behind
tile drawer, open tile drawer and remove it to
clean them ()/it. See the Care and Clealfing
section.
To stop the compactor:
Tile compactor may be stopped at any time.
1. Attempting to open tile drawer while tile
ram is moving will stop tile ram. Tile satetv
switch will activate.
2. Close tile drawer completely and tile rain
will travel back to tile UP position.
3. Open tile drawer fllllv and turn tile knob
to OFF.
