Restrict ing your wireless net work to only specified devices m eans t hat any ot her
wireless devices within range of your net work will not be allowed t o connect, even if
they crack your user nam e and password. This prot ects the com puters on your
net work, and also assures that all t he bandwidth on your net work is available t o your
devices.
How?
Use MAC Address filtering to restrict the devices that can connect t o your wireless
net work. The Media Access Control address ( MAC address) , is a unique ident ifier t hat is
assigned to com puter hardware ( desktops, lapt ops, rout ers, gam ing consoles, et c.).
Your router can use this identifier to
allow only specific devices, or even deny a specific
device if you have not iced anot her user connect ed to your wireless network.
Password Security
To prot ect your wireless network, use the following rules for guidelines on creat ing a
strong password:

Rout er let s you set a password up to 15 charact ers long. The
m ost secure passwords are usually bet ween 8 and 15 charact ers long.
2. The router will allow you t o enter a space or ot her punctuat ion in your password.
3. Use a m ixture of upper (A through Z) and lower ( a through z) case let t ers.
4. Adding num bers 0 through 9 to a password increases securit y.
5. Use ASCI I sym bols, such as ~ ! @ # $ % & ^ * , et c, to furt her increase the
security of your password.
