REMOTE METERING KITS
INSTALLATION AND OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
RMK15-I: INDOOR SURFACE MOUNT RMK15-F: INDOOR FLUSH MOUNT
For use when monitoring generator output is required to balance the loads on each leg of your generator to prolong generator life, compatible with
GenTran
®
Power Centers and Generator-Ready Load Centers (Series GTV and GTL Models) as well as most any transfer switch and load center from
other manufacturers. Each GenTran
®
Remote Metering Kit includes two meters rated up to 7500 watts. Therefore, if a generator is rated at 7500 watts
(continuous), each meter will have a maximum reading of 3750 watts.
FEATURES:

wire leads for easy installation.
Surface-mount box includes mounting feet and offset
nipple for fast, easy installation
Surface box has 7- ½”hubs to accommodate almost
any mounting location.
WARNING: Installation of transfer switches, remote meter kits and related wiring must be done by a qualified electrician
familiar with all applicable electrical codes and experienced in working with generators. Gen/Tran accepts no responsibility for
accidents, damages or personal injury caused by incorrect installation.
HAZARDOUS VOLTAGES ARE PRESENT INSIDE
TRANSFER SWITCH & LOAD CENTER ENLOSURES THAT CAN CAUSE DEATH OR SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY.
FOLLOW PROPER INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES TO AVOID THESE VOLTAGES.
INSTALLING RMK15-I – INDOOR SURFACE MOUNT MODEL: FIGURE 1
1. Shut off utility and generator power to the transfer switch. Remove transfer switch cover.
2. Select a location to mount the Remote Meter Kit box next to the transfer switch using an existing ½”
knockout (KO) and near the wires from the generator to the transfer switch breaker.
3. Remove the desired ½” KO, or punch a 7/8” hole in the transfer switch enclosure.
4. Remove the cover from the Remote Meter Kit box, remove the desired ½” KO plug from the Remote Meter
Kit box and thread the ½” offset nipple (included with Remote Metering Kit) into the hole.
5. Insert the other end of the offset nipple through the ½” KO created in Step 3 and secure with provided
locknut.
6. Anchor the meter box to the wall with the “feet” incorporated into the box with installer provided hardware.
7. Verify that the “Generator Main” circuit breaker in the transfer switch is OFF; loosen the breaker terminal
screws that secure the wires from the generator. Insert one generator wire through the center of one CT
center and loop it around the CT once, repeat for second generator wire. See Figure 2. Reconnect the
generator wires to the generator circuit breaker inside the transfer switch.
8. Route the CT wires thru the ½” offset nipple and carefully push to the inside of the box – be careful not to
damage the ¼” quick-connect terminals affixed to the CT leads. Push the pairs of wires from each CT onto
the back of each meter. The polarity is not important.
9. Re-install the covers. Turn on the utility and generator power.

1. Shut off utility and generator power to the transfer switch. Remove transfer switch and Remote Meter Kit covers.
2. Select a location to mount the Remote Meter Kit blue box not to exceed 3 ft. from the transfer switch since the CT lead wires are 4 ft. in
length and need to run between the blue box and the transfer switch.
3. Cut a hole in the wall for the blue box.
4. Locate and remove a ½” KO in the transfer switch enclosure near the blue box and drill a ½” hole through the
stud into the adjacent cavity where the blue box will be located.
5. Verify that the “Generator Main” circuit breaker in the transfer switch is OFF; loosen the breaker terminal
screws that secure the wires from the generator. Insert one generator wire through the center of one CT
center and loop it around the CT once, repeat for second generator wire. See Figure 2. Reconnect the
generator wires to the generator circuit breaker inside the transfer switch.
6. Route the CT wires thru the ½” KO and hole drilled in Step 4 and pull out of the wall hole cut in Step 3. Insert
the CT wires into one of the openings in the blue box. Slide the blue box into the wall hole and tighten the
two screws on opposite corners to hold the blue box in the wall.
7. Push the pairs of wires from each CT onto the back of each meter. The polarity is not important.
8. Re-install the covers. Turn on the utility and generator power.
TESTING the REMOTE METER KIT
1. Connect generator to transfer switch per manufacturer’s instructions. Start generator.
2. Turn off all loads connected to generator. Turn on one known-sized load of at least 1500 watts @ 120V; verify one of the meters reads
1500 watts. Add additional loads, verifying meter reading against load size. Installation is now complete.
