POWERING THE CONTENDER Instructions USING THE CONTENDER WITH AC POWER USING THE CONTENDER WITH BATTERY POWER Important! The Contender is a multivoltage fixture capable of running on 100–240 V, 50/60 Hz. The included cable has a 120 V, 50 Hz (North American) plug. To use this fixture with other voltages, you must use a plug adapter (sold separately). Important! The Contender will operate only with both batteries installed. Make sure the unit is turned off.
CHARGING THE BATTERIES Insert the batteries into the dual battery charger, and plug the charger into a wall outlet. Instructions 5. Insert the batteries by aligning the battery contacts and pressing the batteries down into the battery slots. The indicator lights on the charger will show the remaining charge in each battery, and the lights will blink to indicate that charging is in progress. When all indicator lights are steadily illuminated, the batteries are fully charged.
MOUNTING THE CONTENDER Instructions The Contender can be mounted directly to a light stand, a tripod head with an Arcastyle clamp, or the included ball head. LIGHT STAND The Contender is equipped with 1/4- and 3/8-inch threaded receivers. To mount the contender directly to a light stand, screw the Contender onto the light stand’s threaded post. ARCA-STYLE CLAMP Loosen the locking knob of the Arcastyle clamp and slide the Contender’s mounting plate into the clamp.
OPERATING THE CONTENDER USING THE BARNDOORS Instructions The barndoors come attached to the Contender. Unfold the barndoors to shape the beam and prevent light spill. To remove the barndoors, follow these steps: 1. Pull the barndoor latch away from the fixture, and twist it so the teeth aren’t locking the barndoor fixture in place. 2. Slide the barndoors toward the barndoor latch and off of the fixture. To replace the barndoors, slide the fixture into the barndoor mount, and close the barndoor latch.
USING THE TUNGSTEN FILTER Instructions The Contender daylight model comes with a tungsten filter that allows you to match other tungsten fixtures in your lighting setup. 1. Unlock the barndoor latch to expose the insert slot. 2. Place the curved end of the tungsten filter into the slot and press it down into the insert. 3. Lock the barndoor latch.
BRIGHTNESS ADJUSTING THE FRESNEL LENS With the light turned on, rotate the control knob to adjust the brightness from 10% to 100% in 1% increments. The Contender has an integrated Fresnel lens that focuses the angle of the beam from a 25° spot to a 55° flood. COLOR TEMPERATURE (CB MODEL ONLY) Turn the focusing ring to adjust the beam angle. The color temperature can be adjusted from 5600 to 3200 K (daylight to tungsten balance) in 100 K increments. 1.
AVAILABLE ACCESSORY KIT Instructions A separate accessory kit for the Contender includes an adapter ring for Profoto-compatible speed rings and Profoto OFC softboxes. The kit also includes an insert frame that allows you to use your own customized gel filters and diffusers.
