FAQ

Smart Management Module (SMM)
What is load shedding/load management? Load shedding helps keep your important stuff on by stagger starting (or locking
out) less important appliances. This helps avoid overloading the generator when everything surges up all at once. It helps
customers use a smaller generator to power more things by starting less important appliances one at a time.
What is a SMM? A normally open contactor that “sheds” load without having to run control wires back to the transfer switch. It
cuts inline on the existing appliance wiring which makes the install easy and affordable. 1 module for every load you want to
lock out or “manage”. Up to 8* loads can be managed using 8 SMM’s. (Technically 10+, but let’s stick with 8)
How it works: When the generator initially starts or during an overload condition, all loads connected to SMM’s will turn off for
5 minutes and then be brought on in priority order (or left off if “Locked out” is selected). Patented technology in the module
senses the difference between utility power and generator power so appliances won’t be affected when utility power is
powering the home.
Compatibility: Works with everything 1 phase, 60hz- old/new, AC, LC-the intelligence is in the module, so it doesn’t rely on a
control board at all. Synergy/Ecogen15kw will still need PMM’s to “fast load shed” appliances 10kw or 2hp or larger, but
smaller loads can use SMM’s. Customers can still use “free” AC contacts by using the synergy transfer switch. SMMs can be
used in conjunction with PMM or DLM, or can replace DLM/PMM.
