Troubleshooting
Engine smokes

Manual for engine-specific
procedures)
Check the oil level and adjust as needed.
Verify machine is level.
Air filter dirty. Change air filter following the procedure in the Engine Owner's Manual.
Oil too light for the temperature. Refer to your Engine Owner's Manual for detailed
information.
Verify cooling fins are clean and free of debris. Clean as needed.
Contact an IASD if problem persists.
Shredding and chipping
action seems too slow
Knife dull or damaged. Sharpen or replace knife.
Machine has excessive
vibration
Knife dull or damaged. Sharpen or replace knife
Hammermill is out of balance. Check for any missing or broken hammers or spacers.
Replace hammers or spacers if necessary.
Knife not seated properly. Loosen knife mounting screws, reset the knife, and tighten
the screws.
Contact an IASD if problem persists.
When chipping, the
branch seems to vibrate
excessively and
“hammers” my hands.
Knife is dull. Sharpen or replace.
Debris builds up in cutting
chamber
Alternate shredding dry material with wet/green material.
Shred a wood stick of up to 1 in (2.54 cm) diameter to clean out the build-up.
