Description
GenTite All Purpose Bonding Adhesive is a solvent based contact adhesive designed for bonding Rubber
Roofing (Black), Rubber Roofing (White), and TPO Roofing (White) to substrate, such as insulations,
wood, metal, concrete and other acceptable substrates.
Installation
Refer to current GenTite Application Instructions for additional application instructions.
A. Horizontal
1. Bonding surfaces must be clean, smooth, dry, and free of sharp edges, loose materials and other
contaminants.
2. Stir the adhesive thoroughly before and during use to achieve a uniform mix with no sediment on the
bottom and no marbling evident. DO NOT THIN MATERIAL.
3. Fold roofing membrane back so one-half (½) of the underside of the panel is exposed.
4. Apply the Bonding Adhesive to the substrate and the membrane at about the same time using a 9”
(228 mm) medium nap roller. A coverage rate of 45 – 60 ft
2
/gal (1.1 – 1.4 m
2
/L) may be achieved
depending on the substrate. Coverage rates will vary depending on substrate texture and porosity.
When applying the Bonding Adhesive, ensure a 100% uniform coverage of both surfaces that will be
adhered. Care should be taken not to apply Bonding Adhesive within the seam areas. Avoid globs or
puddles of adhesive.
5. Allow adhesive to flash off or dry completely. To determine if the adhesive is dry, touch down on the
adhesive with a clean dry finger. As you touch the adhesive surface, push down to check that the
adhesive has completely dried below the surface. If either test exposes wet adhesive when the finger
is lifted, then the adhesive is not ready for bonding. Flash off time will vary depending on ambient
conditions.
6. Apply the adhesive coated membrane into the adhesive coated substrate in a continuous motion
avoiding wrinkles and folds.
7. Using a push broom, apply firm downward pressure to the membrane to promote 100% adhesion to
the substrate.
8. Install adjoining panels in a similar manner, lapping edges a minimum of 3” (76 mm) in preparation for
seaming.
9. All Purpose Bonding Adhesive can be applied using solvent resistant paint rollers, power rollers, or
spray equipment.
B. Vertical
1. For extremely porous substrates such as concrete blocks apply a light seal coat of the adhesive to
the substrate and allow it to dry.
2. Apply adhesive to membrane and a second coat to the wall.
3. Flashing is recommended to be 0.045” (1.1mm) standard membrane and a maximum 10’ (3.0 m) in
length for parapet walls that exceed 4’ (1.22 m) in height.
