LEAD ROLL FLASHING
INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
These basic installation guidelines are for use with typical or standard applications. It is always recommended to seek advice from a licensed
professional, and to check with your local building inspector or building permit office for approvals and possible variations that may apply.
Gibraltar Lead Roll Flashing is a proven, long-life building material. It is malleable so it can be shaped to fit
the contours of many building materials, including roofing tiles and brickwork.
Counterflashing Example
1. Cut a chase (channel) in the mortar 6 inches above the roof deck. Using an angle grinder with a diamond mortar wheel, cut a
channel about an inch to an inch and a half deep.
2. Use sections of lead about 5 feet long.
3. Bend along the top edge, to make a leg to tuck into the chase.
4. Cut 1 inch by 6 inch strips, and roll them into wedges (bungs). Flatten one edge with a hammer so that it will slide into the chase
more easily. Hammer the bung into the chase and then use a chisel to secure it. Space the bungs approximately every 12 inches
5. Side lap the next section of lead lead roll about 6 inches.
6. Use a lead dresser or block of wood to flatten the lead to the wall.
7. When the lead is installed, bunged, and dressed, finish the joint with mortar.
