Getting Started Getting Started Chapter 1 :: Welcome Basic Setup Congratulations on your purchase of this R6530 DVD Recorder, an advanced DVD player and recorder in one.

Most disc manufacturers specify that you can record up to 1,000 times. What is the basic DVD recording process? The basic recording process is to load a blank DVD+R or DVD+RW disc, switch the DVD Recorder to Live mode, choose the input source you wish to record, set the record quality, and press RECORD. What does the Auto Chapter feature do? The Auto Chapter feature creates Chapters automatically every 5 minutes while you are recording.
:: Player Overview Front Panel Controls 1 Power button Press to power on the DVD Recorder. • When the power is on, use the On/Standby button on the remote control to turn the unit on and off. • When the power is off, the unit is effectively disconnected from the wall outlet. 2 Line In 1 (S-Video Input) R6530 DVD Recorder Connect to the S-Video output of your camcorder or other playback device.

Remote Control 1 On/Standby Press to switch the DVD Recorder between On and Standby (low power) modes. The Power button on the front panel must be pressed in for this button to work. 2 Prog. Scan Press to switch the video output between Progressive Scan and Interlace Scan. Only use when the DVD Recorder is connected to a Progressive Scan television with the Component Video Output. 3 Setup While a disc is in Stop mode, press to display the DVD Recorder Setup menu.
Press to switch between Disc mode (for playback of discs) and Live mode (for watching and recording TV or external sources). 24 Stop Press to stop and hold disc playback (press Play /Enter to resume). Press Stop twice to stop playback completely and reset the disc. Also press to stop DVD recording. 25 Rev Press repeatedly to scan backward at variable speeds. 26 Fwd Press repeatedly to scan forward at variable speeds. 27 Pause/Step Press to pause playback and recording.
Rear Panel 1 Antenna In Connect to your antenna, cable TV, or cable box with a coaxial cable. 2 Out to TV Connect to the Antenna Input on older televisions with a coaxial cable. 3 Line In 2 (Composite Video/Stereo Audio Inputs) Connect to the audio/video outputs of an external source (such as a cable box or VCR) with RCA cables. 4 Line In 2 (S-Video Input) R6530 DVD Recorder Connect to the S-Video output of an external source (such as a satellite receiver) with an S-Video cable.
Basic Setup Getting Started Chapter 2 :: Basic Connections Basic Setup Connecting the R6530 is virtually the same as connecting a standard VCR. Follow these steps to connect the DVD Recorder to your TV and antenna/basic cable. :: Advanced Connections Getting Started S-Video Connections Use for improved picture quality when watching DVD movies. Your television must be equipped with an S-Video input. 1 Connect S-Video to TV Basic Setup Connect an S-Video cable from the S-VIDEO OUT jack on the back panel of the DVD Recorder to the S-Video input on your television.
Component Video/Progressive Scan Connections Use for superior picture quality when watching DVD movies. Your television must be equipped with Component Video or Progressive Scan inputs. 1 Connect Component Video to TV Connect a component video cable from the PROG. SCAN jacks on the back panel of the DVD Recorder to the component video inputs on your television. Be sure to correctly match each of the cables (Y, Pr, Pb) to the corresponding jacks on the DVD Recorder and TV.
Audio/Video Receiver Connections Getting Started Follow these steps to connect the DVD Recorder to a digital audio/video receiver. 1 Connect DVD Recorder to Digital Audio Receiver Help Advanced Settings DVD Playback DVD Recording Basic Setup Connect a coaxial OR optical digital audio cable from the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT jacks on the back panel of the DVD Recorder to the matching digital audio inputs on your audio/video receiver. • Use whichever connection is available on your audio/video receiver.
Cable Box Connections Follow these steps to connect a cable box or satellite receiver to your DVD Recorder: 1 Connect Incoming Cable to Cable Box Connect a coaxial cable from your cable TV wall outlet to the input jack on your cable box. 2 Connect Cable Box to DVD Recorder Connect a second coaxial cable from the output jack on the cable box to the ANTENNA IN jack on the back panel of the DVD Recorder. 3 Connect DVD Recorder to TV Choose either Antenna Out or Line Out: a.
Alternative Cable Box Connections Getting Started This connection method allows you to record from basic cable while watching scrambled channels simultaneously. However, with this method you will not be able to record scrambled channels. 1 Connect Incoming Cable to DVD Recorder Basic Setup Connect the coaxial cable from your cable TV wall outlet to the ANTENNA IN jack on the back panel of the DVD Recorder.
Other Audio/Video Connections Follow these steps to connect an external audio/video source, such as a camcorder, satellite receiver, VCR, or video game, to your DVD Recorder. 1 Connect Source to DVD Recorder Connect your source to the line inputs on the front (Line 1) or rear (Line 2) of the DVD Recorder. 2 Choose from the following options: To View Device • Press Disc/Live on the remote control to switch to Live mode.

Before you begin: • Turn on the DVD Recorder using the front panel Power button. If the unit is in Standby mode, press On/Standby on the remote control to power on the unit. The green Power indicator will glow on the front panel display. • Turn on your TV, and set it to the video input connected to the DVD Recorder.

Follow these steps to record from an external device, such as a VCR, camcorder, satellite receiver, etc. Before you begin: • Turn on the DVD Recorder, TV and audio system (if applicable). • Make sure your external device is powered on and connected to the front or rear line in jacks. • Make sure your external device is cued up so it is ready to play at the desired counter position. For example, play your camcorder or VCR to the start of the scene you wish to record.

:: Editing during DVD Playback Getting Started Certain types of edits can only be done during DVD playback. These edits include Insert/Remove Chapter, Hide/Show Chapter and New Thumbnail. Inserting a Chapter Basic Setup 1 Insert a DVD+R or DVD+RW disc into the DVD Recorder. 2 Press Disc/Live to switch to Disc mode. • The DVD+R/+RW disc menu appears on the screen. 3 Use the / buttons to select the desired Title. 4 Press Play /Enter to begin playing the Title.
Showing a Chapter The Show Chapter feature allows you to restore hidden Chapters. In order to view hidden Chapters you must first select Play Full Title from the disc menu; see page 27. This will cause hidden Chapters to play and will mark them with the label HIDDEN on the on-screen display. • Cue to the hidden Chapter you want to restore. • The word HIDDEN appears on screen when a selected Chapter is hidden. • Use the / buttons to select Show Chapter and press Play /Enter.
:: Editing from the Disc Menu DVD+R Disc Menu Edits Basic Setup Playing a Full Title Getting Started Certain types of edits can only be done from the DVD+R/+RW disc menu. These edits include Play Full Title, Finalize, Erase Title and Make Compatible: 1 Insert a DVD+R or DVD+RW disc into the DVD Recorder. 2 Press Disc/Live to switch to Disc mode. • The DVD+R/+RW disc menu appears on the screen. 3 Use the / buttons to select the desired Title.
:: Timer Recording You can program up to 8 Timer Recording events up to 1 year in advance. Before you begin: • Turn on the DVD Recorder using the front panel Power button. If the unit is in Standby mode, press On/Standby on the remote control to power on the unit. The green Power indicator will glow on the front panel display. • Turn on your TV, and set it to the video input connected to the DVD Recorder.
Set Date of Recording Getting Started Set a one-time event: • Use the 0-9 buttons to set the month and press (e.g., for June, press “6”) • Use the 0-9 buttons to set the day and press (e.g., for the 10th, press “1-0”) • Use the 0-9 buttons to set the year and press (e.g., for 2003, press “0-3”) • The event must occur within 1 year of the current time or you will receive an input error.
Enable Timer Recording • Use the / buttons to turn the selected event On or Off. • This allows you to save unused Timer Recording settings for future use. R6530 DVD Recorder 9 Press Setup to save your settings and exit the Setup menu. • The unit will alert you if you have entered any invalid data in your Timer Recording settings. • The unit will also alert you if you have entered overlapping events. • To edit an event, simply select it and press Play /Enter. • To delete an entry, press Clear.
DVD Playback Getting Started Chapter 4 DVD Recording Basic Setup :: Basic Disc Playback 31 Advanced Settings 1 Press Open/Close on the remote control or front panel to open the disc drawer. 2 Place the disc in the drawer with the label side facing up and playback side facing down. Disc menus allow you to select Titles and Chapters for playback, change a disc’s default playback settings (such as Audio formats and Subtitle languages), and access any special features on the disc. Use the following buttons to navigate DVD disc menus: Disc Menu Getting Started Disc Menu Navigation Press to display the disc menu for the currently loaded disc. Play Basic Setup Press to move the cursor left, right, up, and down in the disc menu.

:: Special Disc Features Display/Go To 1 Press Display or Go To during playback to view and/or change the current disc status: • DVD - Shows the current Title number, Chapter number, elapsed time, and audio status. • CD - Shows the current Track number, elapsed time, Play mode (Normal or Random), and Repeat mode (Off, Track, or Disc). 2 To go to a specific Title, Chapter or Track or to change the status of any item: • Use the / buttons to select the desired item and press Play /Enter.
Subtitle Basic Setup Getting Started Many DVDs contain subtitles in multiple languages. To select among all available subtitle languages: 1 Press Subtitle during DVD playback, then press Play /Enter. 2 Use the / buttons to select among all available subtitle languages (or Off). 3 Press Play /Enter again. 4 Press Subtitle to exit. Subtitle Screen Audio DVD Recording Many DVDs contain multiple audio formats, such as Dolby Digital 5.1, 2-channel stereo, or soundtracks in multiple languages.
A-B Repeat The A-B Repeat feature allows you to repeat a segment of a DVD or CD in a continuous loop. 1 Press A-B during DVD or CD playback to select point A. 2 Press A-B again to select point B. 3 The selected segment will repeat in a continuous loop. 4 Press A-B again to cancel A-B Repeat. A-B Repeat Screen Repeat To repeat a disc, Title, Chapter, or Track during DVD or CD playback: 1 Press Repeat 1/ALL, then press Play /Enter.
Advanced Settings Getting Started Chapter 5 Setup Menu Categories Setup Menu Navigation The Setup Menu includes advanced options for your R6530 DVD Recorder. The factory default settings are appropriate for the majority of users. Component • Select if you connected the DVD player to your TV using the Component Video output. If you select Component, you also have the option of selecting Interlaced or Progressive Scan (see “Output Format” on page 42). Press Play /Enter to confirm your selection. Output Format :: Clock/System Settings Use to set the clock, parental controls and other system settings. 1 Press Setup. 2 Use the / buttons to select Clock/System and press Play Enter.

NOTE: If this is the first time you have used the player, you must enter the original factory password (“99999”), before you can enter your own personal password. Finalize DVD+R Recording Quality Finalizes a DVD+R disc so it will play in most DVD players. Sets the default quality level for DVD recording: • • • • Use the / buttons to select Finalize. Use the / buttons to select Confirm (or Cancel). If you select Confirm, the DVD+R will be closed to further recording and will be compatible with most DVD players. Use the Use the / / /Enter.
