BASIC INFORMATION WARNING DO NOT place this child restraint in a vehicle seating location that has a front air bag. If the air bag inflates, it can hit the child and child restraint with great force and cause serious injury or death to your child. WHAT IS LATCH? United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards have defined a new system for installing car seats in vehicles. The system is called LATCH. LATCH stands for: Lower Anchorage and Tether for CH ildren. Typical seat in a passenger vehicle. Other vehicle types may have different LATCH locations or different markings. LATCH System for Vehicles: Some vehicle owner manuals use the term ISOFIX to identify the new car seat anchorage system.
HEIGHT & WEIGHT LIMITS This car seat is designed for rear-facing use ONLY by an infant whose: • Weight is less than 22 lbs (10 kg) and; • Height is less than 29 inches (73.6 cm) > Preterm or Low Birth Weight Infants A preterm or low birth weight infant may be at special risk in a vehicle or aircraft. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, these infants may suffer breathing difficulties if improperly reclined in a car seat.
SEAT PAD ASSEMBLY > Remove Harness 1 On back of car seat, press in tab and lift metal rod up and out of slots (fig. a). 2 Slide metal rod out of loops of harness strap (fig. b). 3 From front of car seat, pull harness strap out of harness strap slots (fig. c). 4 Remove chest clip from each harness strap (fig. d). Belt must lay flat and not be twisted. 3 For ease of installation, extend LATCH belt to its maximum length. 4 5 6 Check that the lower anchorage belt stays tight and does not slip from the tightened position. PLACING CHILD IN CAR SEAT 1 Place child in car seat with child’ s back flat against back of car seat. 2 Place harness straps over child’ s shoulders and insert tongues into buckle to lock. WARNING To prevent serious injury or death: • Keep harness straps snug and positioned on shoulders. A snug strap should not allow any slack. It lies in a relatively straight line without sagging. It does not press on the child’ s flesh or push the child’ s body into an unnatural position.

Pull up on tongues to be sure they are locked. • To unbuckle: Press red button and pull tongues out. 2 Chest Clip: • To open: Squeeze tabs on both sides and pull apart. • To close: Snap halves together. IMPORTANT: Straps MUST be through matching Slots of seat pad and car seat. • Select Loops that provide proper snugness.

VEHICLE SEAT BELTS WARNING Not all vehicle seat belts can be used with a car seat. The car seat must be held securely at all times by a lap belt (or lap belt portion of a lap/shoulder belt) that will not loosen while driving. To provide the most secure installation of the car seat: • Read the vehicle owner’ s manual regarding car seat installation and seat belt use with car seat. • Follow all instruction labels on vehicle seat belt and car seat.
VEHICLE SEAT BELTS (continued) > Belts Forward of Seat Crease Vehicle seat belts located forward of seat crease may not securely hold car seat. Check vehicle owner’ s manual or see vehicle dealer for car seat installation requirements. Seat Crease • If approved for use with car seat, install car seat and check for secure installation by pulling car seat front to back. If car seat slides forward, DO NOT use these seat belts.
VEHICLE SEAT BELTS (continued) > Lap Belts - Manually Adjustable The locking latch plate on some seat belts may slip and loosen after being buckled on car seat if positioned at a certain angle. If this happens, flip latch plate over (fig. a) and re-buckle. Test installation again to see if this works. If not, move car seat to another seating position. > Lap Belts - With Retractor Lap belts with retractors may or may not hold a car seat securely. Flip (fig.
VEHICLE SEAT BELTS (continued) > Passive Restraint - Lap Belt with Motorized Shoulder Belt DO NOT use with any car seat. > Passive Restraint - Lap or Shoulder Belt Mounted on Door DO NOT use with any car seat. Belts will not stay tight while driving.
VEHICLE SEAT BELTS (continued) > Combination Lap/Shoulder Belt with Sliding Latch Plate Pull on latch plate (fig. b). If belt slides freely through latch plate, a locking clip MUST be used (see Locking Clip section). Pull Some combination lap/shoulder belts with sliding latch plates may be converted into an “automatic locking mode” that will allow use without a locking clip. See vehicle owner’ s manual and label on vehicle belts for instructions. (fig.
VEHICLE SEAT BELTS (continued) > Locking Clip WARNING Avoid serious injury or death: • Failure to use locking clip where required will result in car seat not being securely held in place. • Remove locking clip from seat belts when not being used with car seat. • DO NOT use locking clip as a vehicle seat belt shortener. You MUST use locking clip provided with car seat with a vehicle seat belt that slides freely through the latch plate or the lap belt cannot be tightly secured.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION > Care & Cleaning Seat Pad: Machine-wash separately in cold water on delicate cycle and drip dry. Harness straps and LATCH straps: Surface wash only with mild soap and damp cloth. If harness or LATCH straps are frayed or heavily soiled, they MUST be replaced. Shell: Wipe with mild solution of soap and water. Avoid wetting labels. Never use “household detergents”: they can weaken plastic. Buckle: Rinse buckle with warm water. DO NOT use household detergents. Never lubricate buckle.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION > Aircraft Use This car seat is certified for use on aircraft (see label on car seat). Contact airline about their policy. Use this car seat only on forward-facing aircraft seats. (continued) > LATCH Storage Hook LATCH ends to storage bars on back of seat. Pull adjustment belt tight. ¿QUÉ ES EL SISREMA LATCH? Las Normas Federales para Seguridad de Automóviles de Estados Unidos han determinado un nuevo sistema de instalación de asientos de seguridad en los vehí culos. Este sistema se denomina LATCH, que son las siglas en inglés de: Asiento tí pico en un vehí culo de pasajeros. Otros tipos de vehí culos pueden tener otras ubicaciones para el sistema LATCH. LIMITES DE ESTATURA Y PESO Este asiento para el automóvil está diseñado solamente para ser usado orientado hacia atrás por bebés de corta edad: • que pesen menos de 22 libras (10 kg) y; • cuya estatura sea de 29 pulgadas (73,6 cm) o menos > Bebés prematuros o que pesen menos de lo normal al nacer Los bebés prematuros o que pesen menos de lo normal al nacer pueden correr un riesgo especial en un automóvil o un avión.
ENSAMBLAJE DE LA ALMOHADILLA > Quite el arnés 1 En el respaldo del asiento para el automóvil, apriete la pestaña y levante la varilla de metal para sacarla de las ranuras (fig. a). 2 Saque la varilla de metal de los bucles de la correa del arnés (fig. b). 3 Desde la parte delantera del asiento para el automóvil, jale la correa del arnés para sacarla de sus ranuras (fig. c). 4 Quite el cierre del arnés de cada correa del arnés (fig. d).

Ajuste la correa de manera que cada lado tenga la misma longitud.

Una correa bien ajustada no deberá tener nada de huelgo. Se mantiene en una lí nea relativamente derecha sin combarse. No aprieta la piel del niño ni pone al cuerpo del niño en una posición poco natural. Compruebe los ajustes periódicamente.

Tire de las lengüetas para asegurarse de que están trabadas. • Para desabrocharla: oprima el botón rojo y tire de las lengüetas del arnés para sacarlas de la hebilla. 2 Cierre del arnés: • Para abrir: Apriete las lengüetas de ambos lados y sepárelas. • Para cerrarlo: desde el reverso del cierre del arnés, coloque el cierre del arnés sobre la lengüeta del cierre.

CINTURONES DE SEGURIDAD DE LOS VEHICULOS (cont) > Cinturones de regazo – Ajustables manualmente La placa de cierre inmovilizadora de algunos cinturones de seguridad puede moverse y aflojarse después de haber sido abrochada al asiento para el automóvil si se coloca en un determinado ángulo. Si esto ocurre, voltee la placa de cierre (fig. a) y vuelva a abrocharla. Compruebe la instalación de nuevo para ver si esto funciona. Si no, mueva el asiento para el automóvil a otra posición.

INFORMACION ADICIONAL > Cuidado y limpieza Almohadilla del asiento: Lavar a máquina por separado, en el ciclo de delicados, y déjela secar al aire. Correas del arnés y correas del LATCH: Lí mpielas solamente en su superficie con jabón neutro y un paño húmedo. Si las correas del arnés o LATCH están debilitadas o muy sucias, DEBEN ser reemplazadas. Cascarón: Lí mpielo con una solución suave de agua y jabón. Evite mojar las etiquetas. No utilice nunca detergentes para el hogar: pueden debilitar el plástico.
