Command Syntax
IEEE488.2, 1992 (fully compatible)
SCPI, 1994 (partially compatible)
The SCPI standard is an ASCII based standard that
defines the command syntax and structure for
programmable instruments.
Commands are based on a hierarchical tree
structure. Each command keyword is a node on
the command tree with the first keyword as the
root node. Each sub node is separated with a
colon.
Shown below is a section of the SOURce[1|2] root
node and the :PM and :PULSe sub nodes.

Commands can be separated in to three distinc
types, simple commands, compound commands
and queries.
Simple
A single command with/without
a parameter
