BDA 387/2 A Product Description A1 Concise Operating Instructions To turn spectro-color® on and off, press the flush button on the top of the instrument. The warning „Instrument not calibrated for 24 hours!“ appears after 24 hours without calibration at the latest. Press the centre black key yes to call the calibration function directly. If you do not wish to calibrate, because e.g. the calibration standard is not available, you can also measure without previous calibration.
BDA 387/2 A2 Introduction spectro-color® is a colorimeter operating on the spectral method described in DIN 5033 using the d/8° circular viewing geometry, i.e. the sample is illuminated with polychromatic light with the optical unit observing the reflected light from a 8° position towards the sample surface. spectro-color® is a genuine grating colorimeter measuring the visible spectral range (400nm to 700nm) at intervals of 10nm. A special reference beam system ensures highly reproducible measurings.

BDA 387/2 B2.2 How to use the Barcode-reader With accessory „barcode reader pen“, it is easy to assign sample names to the measured values or load references from the memory. To create the corresponding barcodes you need the PC-Software spectral-qc. First turn spectro-color® off. Then connect the 9-pole D-sub plug of the barcode reader pen to spectro-color® (fig. 3, item 4). Hold the barcode reader pen loosely at an angle of. 10 to 30 degrees to the perpendicular.

BDA 387/2 C Applications C1 Calibration It is recommended to calibrate spectro-color® at least once a day. spectro-color® should also be calibrated before every set-off measurement or after extended breaks (several days). After 24 hours without calibration, a warning is issued on the display Go for yes to skip directly to the calibration routine. If you don’t want to calibrate, because e.g. your calibration standard is not on hand, you can continue measuring without recalibration.
BDA 387/2 C2 Colour Measurement Preparing the measurement • Turn spectro-color® on and calibrate the instrument, if required (see chapter C1) • Select the required colour values (see Configuration). • C D65/10/SPIN _ M L* a* b* (CIE) Press key C for colour measurement. × Measuring Procedure • Place spectro-color® in perpendicular position to the sample.

You can freely choose names for the memory pages (e.g. page 1, page 2, etc.) when managing the memory with the PC-software.
BDA 387/2 C3.2 Pass/Fail Difference Measurement The pass/fail program is designed for routine analyses of test elements. The instrument monitors a given maximum colour tolerance without reading the display after each measurement but just signals deviations outside the tolerance with a double-beep. Preparing the measurement • and Turn spectro-color necessary (see chapter C1). • Select Pass/Failchapter B3.2). • Press the ® ΔC measurement.
BDA 387/2 C3.4 Relative opacity measurement DIN 53146 defines the opacity of paper as the relation of the reflectance Ro of a single sheet on a black backing to the reflectance R∞ of the same sheet on a pile of identical sheets. • Select item [colour difference] in the main configuration menu [colour difference] and confirm with ok. The display now shows a choice of colour systems for difference measurement (see page 10). • To highlight option [rel. Opacity] press the Ø key and confirm with ok.
BDA 387/2 C4 Memory spectro-color® can store up to 1000 measurements. The stored values are available for later printing or loading to a PC (optional QC-software). At item [Memory] you can activate or deactivate (on or off) the memory and print or clear the contents. This item comes at [value memory] in the main configuration menu. Then you see the menu shown on the right. C4.1 Memory activation Memory active passive print clear . × Ø ok Press key × or Ø to select [aktiv].

All following measurements are stored for the mean value calculation. • Press the M key to select mean value calculation. Then you see the display shown on the right. • Place spectro-color® on the sample. • Trigger measurement with the measure button.
BDA 387/2 C6 Printer All measuring and calibration values can be documented with an optional Hach Lange printer. There are two types of prints, i.e. protocol and memory print. In the protocol print, all values are printed at once. In the memory print, however, the entire memory is printed. The printout shows measurings, number of the measurement and identification of the measuring values. Calibration Colour measurement e.g.: CIE- L*a*b* Colour difference z.B.: CIE-dE* Key M . Key Cl .
