BUILDING PRECAUTIONS OPTIONAL FLOAT INSTALLATION HINWEISE ZUM BAU During assembly, we recommend resting the parts on a soft surface such as a soft towel to help prevent denting the sheeting. When installing the recommended floats on your Ultra Stick 10cc, make sure to use the parts listed under the Optional Floats parts.
AILERON AND FLAP INSTALLATION 1. Remove the aileron and flap from the wing. 2. Use a 5/64-inch (2mm) drill bit to clear the holes of any debris for the control horn mounting screws. 1. 6. Use side cutters to trim the screws. 6. 2. 7. Use a file to lightly file any sharp points from the screws after they have been trimmed. Use care not to contact the control surface with the file. 7. Prepare and install the flap control horns at this time following the same procedure as the aileron control horns.
11. Install all three aileron hinges at this time. 11. 16. Check the gap between the flap and aileron. Use a thin ruler (or similar) that is 1/16-inch (1.5mm) thick as a spacer so the gap between the ailerons and flaps are the same. Remove the T-pins and glue the hinges for the flaps using thin CA. 16. 12. Repeat the previous steps to install all three of the flap hinges. 12. 17. Once the CA cures, gently pull on the fixed surface and control surface to make sure the hinges are glued securely.
20. Use a hobby knife and #11 blade to remove the covering in the servo cover to the servo arm. 20. 25. Apply a small amount of thin CA to harden the threads made in the previous step. Allow the CA to fully cure before installing the aileron servo cover. 25. 21. Check that the servo mount is glued securely to the servo cover. If the mount is not secure, use a small amount of medium CA or epoxy to make sure the mount is securely fastened to the servo cover. 21. 26.
30. Enlarge the hole in the servo arm that is 5/8-inch (16mm) from the center of the servo. (Drawing is not to scale). 30. The servo arm length listed is suited for sport flying. Longer servo arms, such as those included with DUB671, can be used for more extreme throws and 3D flight. 35. Tie or tape the string located inside the wing to the end of the servo lead. 35. 5/8 inch (16mm) 31. Secure the servo to the cover using a #1 Phillips screwdriver and the screws provided with the servo. 31. 36.
40. Connect the clevis to the center hole of the control horn. With the radio on and aileron servo centered, adjust the link to center the aileron. 40. 45. Use the radio system to set the flap to the down position. Use the radio to set the full deflection position. 45. 41. Once set, slide the clevis retainer (silicone tubing) over the forks of the clevises, then tighten the nuts against the clevises. Use threadlock on the nuts to prevent them from vibrating loose. 41. WING INSTALLATION 46. 42.
50. Use a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol to remove the lines from the wing made by the felt-tipped pen. 50. 54. Check the alignment of the stabilizer to the wing. It should be equal on both sides of the fuselage. 54. 51. Brush a small amount of 5-minute epoxy on the exposed wood. Place the wing bolt plate in position and allow the epoxy to fully cure before proceeding. 51. 55. Check all alignments. Mark the outline of the fuselage on the top of the stabilizer. 55. 56.
59. Use an epoxy brush to apply epoxy to the stabilizer mounting surface in the notch in the fuselage for the stabilizer. 59. 64. Use a hobby knife with a #11 blade to carefully remove the covering 1/8-inch (3mm) inside the lines drawn from the top of the fuselage at the rear of the fin. 64. 60. Fit the stabilizer back into position. Check the alignment following steps 1 through 3, then use a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol to remove any excess epoxy from the fuselage and stabilizer. 60. 65.
69. Fit the fin in position. Check that it is square to the fuselage. 69. 74. If the elevators are not in alignment, use pliers to bend the joiner wire slightly to bring the halves into alignment. Continue the assembly of your model once the joiner wire has been correctly checked and adjusted. 74. 70. Use tape to hold the fin in position until the epoxy fully cures. Check the position of the fin to make sure it is still square to the stabilizer while the epoxy is curing. 70. 75.
79. Check to make sure you can install the hinges and joiner wire. The leading edge of the elevator will fit tightly against the trailing edge of the stabilizer. 79. 84. Use a toothpick to apply epoxy to the stabilizer where it contacts the joiner wire. 84. 80. Mix a small amount of 15-minute epoxy. Use a toothpick to apply epoxy to the joiner wire. 80. 85. Fit the remaining elevator into position.
89. Lightly sand the tail wheel wire where it contacts the rudder. Use a paper towel and isopropyl alcohol to remove any oil or debris from the wire. 89. 94. Prepare the hinge slots and hinges for the rudder. Install the hinges and fit the rudder to the fin. Align the top of the fin and rudder. Use thin CA to glue the hinges. Once the CA cures, gently pull on the fixed surface and control surface to make sure the hinges are glued securely. If not, apply additional CA to secure each of the hinges. 94. 90.
RADIO INSTALLATION (OPTION 1) 103. Connect the clevis to the hole in the servo that is 5/8inch (16mm) from the center of the arm. (Drawing is not to scale). Make sure to remove any unused arms so they don’t interfere with the operation of the servo. Two options are available for mounting the rudder and elevator servos. Option 1 mounts the servos under the wing for lighter power systems. Option 2 mounts the servos at the rear of the fuselage for heavier power systems.
RADIO INSTALLATION (OPTION 2) 108. 113. Repeat the above steps to build and install the rudder pushrod. Use the included 81/4-inch (210mm) pushrod for the rudder in this step. 113. 109. LANDING GEAR INSTALLATION 114. 108. Attach the control horn to the top of the elevator using the technique outlined for the aileron servos. Use three M2 x 15 screws and nuts along with the control horn backplate.
118. Attach the wheel pants to the landing gear using two M3 x 10 button head screws and two M3 washers. Apply threadlock on the screws, then tighten using a 2mm hex wrench. 118. 123. Use medium grit sandpaper to lightly sand the outside of the pushrod tube so the CA will adhere to it. 123. GAS ENGINE INSTALLATION 119. 124. Insert the pushrod into the hole. Leave 1/4-inch (4mm) extending forward of the firewall. Use medium CA to glue the pushrod to the firewall. 124. 120.
128. Remove the engine from the mounts. Use a drill and 11/64-inch (4.5mm) drill bit to drill the holes for the engine mounting screws. 128. 133. Place a drop of threadlock on the screw, then install the M2 nut to secure the connector. The servo arm can then be reinstalled on the servo. 133. 129. Place an M4 washer on each of the M4 x 30 screws. Insert the four screws through the mounting holes in the engine and through the holes in the mount. 129. 134. Center the throttle stick and trim.
138. Test fit the spinner cone to the backplate. Make sure the propeller does not contact the spinner cone when the screws holes in the cone are aligned with the backplate. Loosen the propeller to reposition the backplate or trim the spinner cone as necessary to provide clearance between the propeller and spinner cone. Attach the spinner cone using the screws included with the spinner. 138. 143. Mount the ignition module in the fuselage. Route the spark plug cap through the hole in the firewall.
148. Mount the switch for the ignition module on the side of the fuselage. Secure the lead from the switch to the ignition module using the fastener included with the engine. 148. 153. Trim the covering inside the opening at the rear of the hatch. The opening is used to remove the hatch to access the motor batteries and to allow cooling air into the fuselage. 153. ELECTRIC MOTOR INSTALLATION 149. 154.
158. Place hook and loop tape on the battery tray and battery to prevent it from sliding on the tray during flight. Hook and loop straps can be installed to secure the battery to the tray. 158. 163. Attach the spinner cone using the screws included with the spinner. Make sure the propeller does not contact the spinner cone. Reposition the backplate or trim the spinner cone as necessary to provide clearance between the propeller and spinner cone. 163. 159. Install the battery tray in the fuselage.
OPTIONAL FLOAT INSTALLATION 168. 173. Prepare the slot for the thicker front strut by removing the covering. 173. 169. Use a hobby knife to remove the material at the ends of the slot so the rear strut wire will fit onto the slot. Use care not to cut through the side of the fuselage. 169. 174. Fit the thicker front strut into the fuselage. Attach the straps in the holes used for the landing gear bolts using the bolts and washers included with your model.
178. Fit the cross brace into the mount on the float without the rudder. Fit both the front and rear cross braces, tightening the screws onto the flat areas of the braces. 178. 179. Slide the float mounts on the struts. Tighten the screws to secure the floats to the struts. 179. 180. Fit the float with the rudder to the struts and cross braces. Tighten the screws to secure the struts and braces to the mounts. 180. 181.
CENTER OF GRAVITY CONTROL THROWS An important part of preparing the aircraft for flight is properly balancing the model. 1. Attach the wing panels to the fuselage. Make sure to connect the leads from the aileron to the appropriate leads from the receiver. Make sure the leads are not exposed outside the fuselage before tightening the wing bolts. Your model should be flight-ready before balancing. Turn on the transmitter and receiver of your model.
AEROBATIC MIXING PREFLIGHT CHECKLIST DAILY FLIGHT CHECKS The Ultra Stick 10cc is configured with separate aileron and flap servos which allows you to add a variety of mixes that will greatly enhance the maneuverability of your model. Using these mixes is optional, and when setting them up, we recommend testing them at a higher altitude until you have become familiar with their effects on your model. • Charge the transmitter, receiver and motor battery for your airplane.
