System Configuration
Whenallaudio,videoandsystemconnections
havebeenmade,therearea few configuration
adjustmentsthat mustbe made.A few minutes
spentto correctlyconfigureand calibratethe
unit will greatlyadd to your listeningexperience.

Nomatter which type or brand of speakersis
used,the samemodelor brandof speaker
should be usedfor the left front, centerand
right front speakers.Thiscreatesa seamless
front soundstageand eliminatesthe possibility
of distracting sonicdisturbancesthat occur
when a soundmovesacrossmismatched
front-channelspeakers.
Speaker Placement
Dependingonthe type of center-channel
speakerinuseana yourviewinc device,place
the centerspeakereitherdirectlyaboveor
belowyourTV,or inthe centerbehinda perfo-
ratedfront projectionscreen.

Oncethe center-channelspeakeris installed,
aositionthe left front and right front speakers
so that theyare as far awayfrom oneanother
asthe center-channelspeakerisfrom the pre-
ferredlisteningposition.Ideally,thefront-channel
speakersshouldbeplacedsothat their tweeters
are no morethan 24" aboveor belowthe
tweeter inthe center-channespeaker, forwardof thecenterspeaker.

screen,Youmayalso experimentwith
placing the left and right speakersslightly
Dependingon the specificsof your room
acousticsandthe type of speakersin use,you
mayfind that imagingis improvedby moving
the left front and right front speakersslightly
forward of the center-channelspeaker.If possi-
ble,adjustall front loudspeakerssothat they
are aimedat ear heightwhenyou are seated
in the listening aosition.
Usingtheseguidelines,you'll findthat it takes
someexperimentationto findthe correctloca-
tion for thefront speakersin yourparticular
installation.Don'tbe afraidto movethings
arounduntil the systemsoundscorrect.Optimize
yourspeakersso that audio transitionsacross
the front of the roomsoundsmooth and that
listeningpositionat the sametime (without
delayfromthe centerspeakercomparedto the
left and right speakers).
Surroundspeakersshouldbeplacedon the side
wallsof the room,at or slightly 3ehindthe
listeningposition.Thecenterof the speaker
shouldfaceinto the room.Thespeakersshould
be locatedsothat the bottom ofthe cabinet
isat leasttwo feet higherthan the listeners'
earswhenthe listenersare seatedin the
desiredarea.

If side-wallmountingisnot practical,the
speakersmaybe placedona rearwa behind
the listeningposition.Again, theyshouldbe
locatedso that the bottomof the cabinet is at
leasttwo feet higherthan the listeners'ears.

behindthe rearof the seatingarea.

Subwoofersproducenondirectionalsounc,so
they maybeplacedalmost anywherein a
room.Actual placementshould bebasedon
roomsizeand shapeand the typeof subwoofer
used.Onemethodof finding the optima]loca-
tion for a subwooferisto begin by placincit in
the front of the room,about sixinchesfroma
wall, or nearthe front cornerof the room.
Anothermethod isto temporariy placethe
subwooferat your norma listeningposition,
and then walk around the room until youfind
a spot where the subwoofersoundsbest.Place
the subwooferin that spot.Youshould also
follow the instructionsof the subwoofer'sman-
ufacturer,or you maywish to experimentwith
the best locationfor a subwooferinyour lis-
tening room.
Oncethe speakershavebeenplacedin the
room and connected,the remainingsteps
in the setupprocessare to programthe
AVR120's bassmanagementsystemfor the
type of speakersusedin your system,calibrate
the output levels,andset the delaytimes usec
by the surroundsoundprocessor.
