PROGRAMMING THE REMOTE
Programming the Remote
TheAVR125 isequippedwitha powerfulremote
controlthatwillcontrolboththereceiver'sfunctions
andmostpopularbrandsof audioandvideoequip-
ment,includingCDplayers,cassettedecks,TVsets,
cableboxes,VCRs,satellitereceiversandotherhome
theaterequipment.OncetheAVR125's remoteis
programmedwiththecodesfortheproductsyouown,
it ispossibletoeliminatemostotherremotesand
replacethemwiththeconvenienceof a single,univer-
salremotecontrol.
Asshippedfromthefactory,theremoteisfullypro-
gmmmedfor allAVR125 functions,aswellasthoseof
mostHarmanKardonCDchangers,DVDplayers,CD
recorders,CDplayersandcassettedecks.Inaddition,
byfollowingoneofthemethodsbelow,you maypro-
gramtheremoteto operatea widerangeof devices
fromothermanufacturers.
DirectCodeEntry
Thismethodistheeasiestwayto programyour
remoteto workwithdifferentproducts.
1. Usethetablesinthefollowingpagesto determine
thethree-digitcodeor codesthatmatchboththe
producttypeprintedontheremoteabovethe
InputSelector_ (e.g.,VCR,TV),andthe
specificbrandname.Ifthereismorethanone
numberfor a brand,makenoteof thedifferent
choices.
2. Turnontheunityouwishto programintothe
AVR125 remote.
3. PressandholdboththeInput Selector_ for
theproductyouwishtocontrol(e.g.,VCR,TV)and
theMute Button _ atthesametime.When
theProgramIndicator_ turnsamberand
beginsflashing,andtheInput Selector_ turns
red,releasethebuttons.It isimportantthatyou
beginthenextstepwithin20 seconds.
4. PointtheAVR125'sremotetowardstheunitto be
programmedandenterthefirstthree-digitcode
numberusingtheNumericKeys_. The
ProgramIndicator_ willchangeto a flashing
greento indicatethata codehasbeenentered.
Iftheunitturnsoff,thecorrectcodehasbeen
entered.PresstheInputSelector_ again,and
notethattheredlightwillflashthreetimesbefore
goingdarkto confirmtheentry.
5. Ifthedeviceto beprogrammedindoesNOTturn
off,continuetoenterthree-digitcodenumbers
untiltheequipmentturnsoff.Atthispoint,thecor-
rectcodehasbeenentered.PresstheInput
Selector_ againandnotethattheredlight
undertheInputSelector0 willflashthree
timesbeforegoingdarkto confirmtheentry.
6.
Tryaftof thefunctionsontheremoteto makecer-
tainthattheproductoperatesproperly.Keepin
mindthatmanymanufacturersusea numberof
differentcombinationsof codes,soit isagood
ideatomakecertainthatnotonlythepowercon-
trol,butthevolume,channelandtransportcontrols
workastheyshould.Iffunctionsdonotwork
properly,youmayneedtousea differentremote
code.
7.
Ifa codecannotbe enteredto turntheunitoff,if
thecodeforyourproductdoesnotappearinthe
tablesinthismanual,orif notallfunctionsoper-
ateproperly,try programmingtheremotewith
theAutoSearchMethod.
Auto SearchMethod
Iftheunityouwishto includeintheAVR125'sremote
isnotlistedinthecodetablesinthismanualorifthe
codedoesnotseemtooperateproperly,youmaywish
to programthecorrectcodeusingtheAutoSearch
methodthatfollows:
1.Turnontheunitthatyouwishto includeinthe
AVR125 remote.
2. PresstheInputSelector_ forthetypeof
productto beentered(e.g.,VCR,TV)andthe
MuteButton _ atthesametime.Holdboth
buttonsuntiltheredlightundertheInputSelector
stayslitandtheProgramIndicator
turnsamberandbeginsflashing.Notethatthenext
stepmusttakeplacewhiletheredlightis on,and
itmustbeginwithin20 secondsafterthelight
appears.
3. PointtheAVR125remotetowardtheunitto be
programmedandpresseitherthe or Button
qi_)q[_).TheProgramIndicator_ will
changeto aflashinggreentoindicatethata code
hasbeenentered.Eachpresswillsendoutathree-
digitcodefromtheremote'sbuilt-indatabase.When
theunitbeingprogrammedturnsoff,releasethe
or• Buttonqi_)q[_), asthatisyourindication
thatthecorrectcodeisinuse.
4. PresstheInputSelector41_ID,andnotethatthe
redlightundertheInputSelectorwillflashthree
timesbeforegoingdarkto confirmtheentry.
5. Tryallof thefunctionsontheremoteto makecer-
tainthattheproductoperates.Keepinmindthat
manymanufacturersusea numberof different
combinationsof codes,andit isa goodideato
makecertainthatnotonlythepowercontrol
works,butalsothatthevolume,channeland
transportcontrolsfunctionproperly.If allfunctions
donotworkproperly,youmayneedtoAuto-
Searchfora differentcode,orentera codeviathe
DirectCodeEntrymethod.
CodeReadout
WhenthecodehasbeenenteredusingtheAuto
Searchmethod,it isalwaysa goodideatofind outthe
exactcodesothatit maybeeasilyreenteredifneces-
sary.Youmayalsoreadthecodesto verifywhich
devicehasbeenprogrammedto a specificControl
Selectorbutton.

thedeviceforwhichyouwishto findthecode
andtheMute Button _ atthesametime.
NotethattheProgramIndicator _ willinitally
turnamber.Releasethebuttonsandbeginthe
nextstepwithin20 seconds.
2. ResstheSetButton_). TheProgram
Indicator_ willthenblinkgreenina sequence
thatcorrespondsto thethree-digitcode,witha one-
secondpausebetweendigits.Countthenumberof
blinksbetweenpausestodeterminethedigitofthe
code.Oneblinkisthenumber1, twoblinksindicate
thenumber2, andsoforth,v_ile10 blinksareused
to indicatea"01'
Example:Oneblink,followedbya one-secondpause,
followedbysixblinks,followedby aone-second
pause,followedby10 blinksindicatesthatthecode
hasbeensetto 160.
