System Configuration
Whenallaudio,videoandsystemconnections
havebeenmade,therearea few configuration t
adjustmentsthat mustbe made.A few minutes No more
than 24"
spentto correctlyconfigureandcalibratethe
unit will greatlyadd to your listeningexperience.

Nomatter which type or brand of speakersis
used,the samemodelor brandof speaker
should be usedfor the left front, centerand
right front speakers.Thiscreatesa seamless
front soundstageand eliminatesthe possibility
of distracting sonicdisturbancesthat occur
when a soundmovesacrossmismatched
front-channelspeakers.
Speaker Placement
Dependingonthe type of center-channel
speakerinuseana yourviewinc device,place
the centerspeakereitherdirectlyaboveor
belowyourTV,or inthe centerbehinda perfo-
ratedfront projectionscreen.

Oncethe center-channelspeakerisinstalled,
aositionthe left front and right front speakers
so that theyare as far awayfrom oneanother
asthe center-channelspeakeris from the pre-
ferredlisteningposition.Ideally,thefront-channel
speakersshouldbeplacedsothat their tweeters
are no morethan 24" aboveor below the placing the left and right speakersslightly
tweeter inthe center-channespeaker forwardof thecenterspeaker.
Dependingon the specificsof your room
acousticsandthe type of speakersin use,you
mayfind that imagingis improvedby moving
the left front and right front speakersslightly
At least 6 inches from ceiling
listeningpositionat the sametime (without
delayfromthe centerspeakercomparedto the
left and right speakers).
Surroundspeakersshouldbe placedon the side
wallsof the room,at or slightly 3ehindthe
listeningposition.Thecenterof the speaker
shouldfaceinto the room.Thespeakersshould
be locatedsothat the bottom of the cabinet
isat leasttwo feet higherthan the listeners'
earswhenthe listenersare seatedin the
desiredarea.
If side-wallmountingisnot practical,the
speakersmaybeplacedona rearwa behind
the listeningposition.Again,theyshouldbe
locatedso that the bottomof the cabinet is at
leasttwo feet higherthan the listeners'ears.
Thespeakersshould 3e no morethan sixfeet
behindthe rearof the seatingarea.
Subwoofersproducenondirectionalsounc,so
they maybeplacedalmost anywherein a
room.Actual placementshould bebasedon
roomsizeand shapeand the typeof subwoofer
__ used.Onemethodof finding the optimal loca-
o__ tion for a subwooferis to begin by placincit in
the front of the room,about six inchesfroma
wall, or nearthe front cornerof the room.

System Setup
Oncethe speakershavebeenplacedin the
room and connected,the remainingsteps
in the setup processare to programthe
AVR220's bassmanagementsystemfor the
type of speakersusedin yoursystem,calibrate
the output levels,and setthe delaytimes usec
by the surround-soundprocessor.
