Input Setup
Thefirst stepin configuringthe AVR220 isto
selectan input.Thismaybedoneby pressing
the front panel Input SourceSelector []
untilthe desiredinput'snameappearsmomen-
tarily in the Main Information Display l_l,
and the greenLEDlights nextto the input's
nameinthe front panelInput Indicators F_"_.
Theinput mayalsobeselectedby pressing
the appropriateInput Selector 41_O on
the remotecontrol.
Whenusingthe full-OSDsystemto makethe
setupadjustments,pressthe OSD Button
onceso that the MASTER MENU (Figure1)
appears.Notethat the cursorwill be nextto
the INPUT SETUP line. Pressthe Set
Button li_ to enterthe menuandthe
INPUT SETUP menu(Figure2)will
appearon the screen.Pressthe ,/• Buttons
li_]t_ until the desiredinputnameappears
inthe highlightedvideo,as well as beingindi-
cated inthe front panelInput Indicators []
by the greenLEDnextto the desiredinput
name.If the inputwill usethe standard
left/right analoginputs,nofurther adjustmentis
needed.

If youwishto associateoneof the digital
inputswith the selectedinput source,pressthe
Button_ on the remotewhile the
INPUT SETUP menu(Figure2)is onthe
screen,and note that the on-screencursorwill
dropdown to the DIGITAL IN line.Press
the _i/• Buttons li_]t_ until the nameof
the desireddigital input appears.Toreturn to
the analoginput, pressthe buttonsuntil the
word ANAL OG appears.Whenthe correct
input sourceappears,pressthe Button
until the cursorappearsnextto RETURN
TO MENU, and pressthe Set Button I[1_.
Tochangethe digital input at anytime using
the discretefunction buttonsandthe semi-OSD
system,pressthe Digital Input Select
Button []I_ onthe front panel orthe
remote.Withinfive seconds,makeyour input
selectionusingthe SelectorButtons [] on
the front panel orthe A/• ButtonsIi_)Ii_
on the remoteuntil the desireddigitalor ana-
log input is shownin the Main Information
Display [] andin the lowerthird of the video
displayconnectedto the AVR220. Pressthe
Set Button qi_ to enterthe new digital input
assignment.
SurroundSetup
Oncethe basicinput setup hasbeencom-
pleted,the nextstepisto setthe surround
modeyouwishto usewith an input.Since
surroundmodesarea matter of personaltaste,
feelfreeto selectany modeyouwish- you
maychangeit later. However,to makeit easier
to establishthe initial parametersfor the
AVR220, it is bestto selectDolbyProLogicII
for mostanaloginputsand DolbyDigitalfor
inputsconnectedto digital sources.Inthe case
of inputssuchasa CD Player,TapeDeckor
Tuner,youmaywishto set the modeto Stereo
(astheyare not typicallyusedwith multichan-
nel programmaterial),whereit is unlikelythat
surround-encodedmaterialwill beused.
Alternatively,the Logic7 Musicmodeisa good
choicefor stereo-onlysourcematerial.
NOTE:If youhaveselectedLogic7 C or M as
yoursurroundmodefor the currentlistening
session,and you'reusinga digitalinput, and
youhaven'tchangedthe default surround
modefor that input sourceto the sameLogic7
mode,youwill noticethat, if the digitalsignalis
interruptedfor any reason(suchasstoppingthe
sourcedevice),uponresumptionof the signal,
the AVR220 will usea differentsurround
mode.Infact,the AVR220 will usewhichever
modewasset asthe defaultfor that source.
Thefactorydefaultfor all sourcesis Stereo
mode,unlessthe receiverdetectsa Dolby
Digitalor DTSbitstream.
It is easiestto completethe surroundsetup
usingthe fulI-OSDon-screenmenus.Fromthe
MASTER MENU (Figure1),pressthe A/•
ButtonsI[_tli_ untilthe cursoris nextto
the SURROUND SETUP menu.Pressthe
Set Button _ sothat the SURROUN D
SETUP menu(Figure3 or 4) is on the
screen.

Sincethe factorydefaultfor all inputs isStereo,
the phraseSURR OFF will initiallyappearin
highlightedvideo(Figure3).Tochangethe sur-
round modewhile the cursoris nextto the
surroundline, pressthe _/• Buttons qi_]t_
untilthedesiredsurroundmode'sname
appearsin the highlightedvideo.As the modes
arechanged,a greenLEDwill also light nextto
the modenamesin the Surround Mode
Indicators [] onthe front panel.
Notethat the data linesnextto the itemsin the
screendisplaywill showeithernumbersor a
seriesof dashes,dependingonwhetheror not
the specificparameterisadjustable.Forexam-
ple,the CenterDelayand Night Modeitemsare
only adjustablefor DolbyDigital,and the Delay
Timeis only adjustedfor DolbyDigitaland
DolbyProLogicI1.Note,also,that DolbyDigital
and DTSwill only appearas choices(Figure4)
whena digitalinput was previouslyselected.
Dependingon the surroundmodeselected,you
maynow proceedto changeeitherthe delay
time orthe crossoverfrequency.ForDolby
Digitaland DolbyPro LogicII, pressingthe
A/• Ii_)Ii_ buttonson the remotewill take
youto the delaysettings.
Delay Settings
If DolbyDigitalor DolbyPro LogicII isselected
asthe surroundmodefor aninput, youmay
needto adjustthe delaytime setting.Notethat
the delaytime is not adjustablefor any other
modes.
Dueto the differentdistancesbetweenthe
listeningpositionfor the front-channelspeakers
andthe surroundspeakers,the amountof time
it takesfor soundto reachyourearsfromthe
front versussurroundspeakersdiffers.Youmay
compensatefor this differencethroughthe use
of the delaysettingsto adjustthe timing for the
specificspeakerplacementand acousticcondi-
tions in your listeningroomor hometheater.
Thefactorysetting is appropriatefor most
rooms,but someinstallationscreatean uncom-
