Programming the Remote
TheAVR220 isequippedwith a powerful
remotecontrolthat will controlnot onlythe
receiver'sfunctions,butalsomost popular
brandsof audioand videoequipment,including
CD players,cassettedecks,TVsets,cableboxes,
VCRs,satellitereceiversand other hometheater
equipment.Oncethe AVR220'sremoteispro-
grammedwith the codesfor the productsyou
own, it is possibleto eliminatemostother
remotesandreplacethemwith the convenience
of a single,universalremotecontrol.
Programming the Remote
Asshippedfrom thefactory,the remoteisfully
programmedfor allAVR220 functions,aswell
asthoseof mostHarmanKardonCDchangers,
DVDplayers,CDplayersandcassettedecks.In
addition,byfollowingoneof the methodsbelow,
youmayprogramthe remoteto operatea wide
rangeof devicesfrom othermanufacturers.
Direct Code Entry
Thismethodisthe easiestway to programyour
remoteto workwith differentproducts.
1. Usethe tablesin the following pagesto
determinethe three-digitcodeor codesthat
matchboththe producttype(e.g.,VCR,TV),
andthe specificbrandname.If there is
morethan one numberfor a brand,make
note of the differentchoices.
2. Turnonthe unit youwishto programinto
theAVR220 remote.
3. Pressand hold boththe Input Selector
O for the productyou wishto control
(e.g.,VCR,TV)andthe Mute Button
at the sametime.Whenthe Program/SPL
Indicator O turns amberand begins
flashing,releasethe buttons.It isimportant
that you beginthe nextstepwithin 20
seconds.
4. PointtheAVR220's remotetowardsthe unit
to beprogrammedandenterthefirstthree-
digit codenumberusingthe Numeric Keys
(1_. Ifthe unitturnsoff,the correctcodehas
beenentered.Pressthe Input Selector
again,and notethat the red light will flash
threetimesbeforegoing darkto confirmthe
entry.
5. If the deviceto be programmedin doesNOT
turnoff, continueto enterthree-digit code
numbersuntilthe equipmentturnsoff.At
this point,the correctcodehasbeen
entered.Pressthe Input Selector
againand note that the redlight underthe
Input Selector _ will flashthree times
beforegoing darkto confirmthe entry.

Tryall ofthe functionsonthe remoteto
makecertainthat the productoperates
properly.Keepin mindthat manymanufac-
turers usea numberof differentcombina-
tions of codes,so it is a good ideato make
certainthat not only the powercontrol,but
the volume,channeland transportcontrols
workas theyshould.If functionsdo not
work properly,you mayneedto use a differ-
ent remotecode.
If a codecannot beenteredto turn the
unit off, if the codefor your product does
not appearin the tables in this manual,or
if not all functionsoperateproperly,try
programmingthe remote with the Auto
SearchMethod.
Auto Search Method
Ifthe unit youwishto includein theAVR220's
remoteis not listedin the codetablesinthis
manualor if the codedoesnotseemto operate
properly,youmaywishto programthe correct
codeusingtheAuto Searchmethodthat follows:
1.Turnon the unitthat youwishto includein
the AVR220 remote.
Pressthe Input Selector _ for the type
of productto beentered(e.g.,VCR,TV)and
the Mute Button _ at the sametime.
Holdboth buttonsuntilthe redlight under
the Input Selector O stayslit. Notethat
the nextstepmusttake placewhilethe red
light is on,and it must beginwithin 20 sec-
ondsafter the lightappears.
3. PointtheAVR220 remotetowardsthe
unitto be programmedand presseitherthe
or Button _. Eachpresswill
sendout a seriesof codesfromthe remote's
built-indatabase.Whenthe unitbeing
programmedturnsoff,releasethe or•
Button _, asthat isyourindication
that thecorrectcodeisin use.

Pressthe Input Selector II_D,and note
that the redlight underthe Input Selector
will flash threetimes beforegoingdark to
confirmthe entry.
Tryall ofthe functionsonthe remoteto
makecertainthat the productoperates.
Keepin mindthat manymanufacturersuse
a numberof differentcombinationsof
codes,and it isa good ideato makecertain
that not onlythe powercontrolworks,but
alsothat the volume,channeland transport
controlsfunctionproperly.If all functionsdo
not work properly,youmayneedto Auto-
Searchfor a differentcode,or entera code
viathe DirectCodeEntrymethod.
Code Readout
Whenthe codehasbeenenteredusingtheAuto
Searchmethod,it isalwaysa goodideato find
out the exactcodesothat it maybeeasilyreen-
teredif necessary.Youmayalsoreadthe codes
to verifywhich devicehasbeen programmedto
a specificControlSelectorbutton.
Pressand hold both the Input Selector
for the devicefor which you wishto
find the codeand the Mute Button
at the sametime. Notethat the
Program/SPI.Indicator I_ will initally
turn amber.Releasethe buttons and begin
the nextstepwithin 20 seconds.
2. Pressthe Set Button qi_. The
Program/SPLIndicator _ will thenblink
greenin a sequencethat correspondsto the
three-digitcode,with a one-secondpause
betweendigits.Countthe numberof blinks
betweenpausesto determinethedigit of the
code.Oneblinkisthe number1,two blinksis
the number2, andsoforth.Tenblinksare
usedto indicatea "0."
Example:Oneblink,followed bya one-second
pause,followed by sixblinks,followed by a
one-secondpause,followed by ten blinksindi-
catesthat the codehas beensetto 160.
