GENERAL BLOOD PRESSURE INFORMATION What is Blood Pressure? Blood pressure is the pressure that is exerted by blood flowing against the walls of the blood vessels throughout your body. Your heart, which is the center of the circulatory system, provides the force for the blood to flow or circulate. When your heart contracts or “beats,” the blood is forced through the blood vessels increasing the pressure. This is the highest pressure in the cycle or what is referred to as SYSTOLIC blood pressure.
GENERAL BLOOD PRESSURE INFORMATION (continued) Why Monitor Your Blood Pressure at Home? A visit to a physician’s office can be stressful for the patient and anxiety is a known factor in raising blood pressure. This temporary occurrence of elevated blood pressure at the physician’s office is commonly referred to as “white coat syndrome.
GENERAL BLOOD PRESSURE INFORMATION (continued) Variations in Blood Pressure Blood pressure is influenced by many factors and can change from moment to moment. Normally, blood pressure is lowest during sleeping periods and rises during the day. The graph below represents variations in blood pressure shown over a day with measurements taken every 5 minutes. The dotted line represents the sleep period. The rise in blood pressure at 1 p.m. (A in the graph) reflects stressful occurrence, and at 7 p.m.

VISUAL BP GUIDE The Visual BP Guide, located on the left side of the Display, will identify your reading within a range in accordance with the guidelines set by the World Health Organization. See the chart below for reference.
IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT DETECTION Your digital blood pressure monitor features Irregular Heartbeat Detection (IHB). If the monitor detects an irregular heart beat two or more times during the measuring process, the IHB symbol will appear on the display, Fig. 1. An irregular heart beat is defined as a rhythm that is either 25% slower or faster than the average rhythm detected while measuring systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
BATTERY INSTALLATION/REPLACEMENT 1. Slide the cover upward and remove the cover. 2. Insert or replace 4 “AA” batteries into the compartment, matching the indicated polarity symbols, Fig. 1. 3. To close, replace cover and slide downward until cover clicks into position. SETTING THE DATE / TIME Select the appropriate user bank. 1. When the unit is OFF, press the SET button to enter into the user mode. The User 1 symbol will begin to flash, Fig. 1. 2. Press the MEMORY button to select User 1 or User 2 and move into the date/time setting. Press SET to confirm. VOICE LANGUAGE SETTING Voice Setting 9. Press the MEMORY button to cycle through L1, L2, and OFF as shown in Fig. 4. APPLYING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE CUFF Before applying your blood pressure cuff, be sure you have selected the appropriate cuff: Small Cuff fits arm circumference 8.66” – 14.17” (22 cm - 36 cm) Standard Cuff fits arm circumference 11.81” – 16.53” (30 cm - 42 cm) Large Cuff fits arm circumference 16.53” – 18.89” (42 cm - 48 cm) OTE: If for any reason you are unable to or should not use your left arm, please modify the N following instructions and apply the cuff to your right arm.
TAKING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE READING Proceed only after reading the previous sections of this manual. 1. Position the monitor on a flat, stable surface with the digital display panel in view. Insert the cuff tubing connector into the left side of the monitor, Fig. 1. Avoid compression or restriction of the connection tubing during measurement which may cause inflation error, or harmful injury due to continuous cuff pressure. 2. Rest your elbow on a solid surface with your palm facing upward.
TAKING YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE READING (continued) NOTE: The default setting of this monitor is to inflate the cuff to approximately 190 mmHg. After three readings, the cuff will inflate to approximately 40 mmHg higher than the average of the last three systolic test reading averages stored in memory. If the system detects that the cuff needs additional pressure, it will automatically re-inflate to approximately 40 mmHg higher than the last pressure level.
DESCRIPTION OF DISPLAY SYMBOLS SYS Shows the pulse rate per minute. Indicates a measurement within Stage 3 Hypertension. Occurs when an error was made during measurement. DIA SYS DIA SYS Appears when there is an irregular heartbeat detected during measurement. Indicates a measurement within Stage 2 Hypertension. Appears when the cuff is unstable or it has too much air left in it. Once the arrow stops flashing, the unit is ready to take a measurement.
TROUBLESHOOTING If any abnormality occurs during use, please check and correct the following: Condition Correction Display is blank when power is on. Check and correct the polarity of the installed batteries. Reinstall or replace batteries. Measurement incomplete or abnormally low or high values displayed. Review and follow “Applying Your Blood Pressure Cuff” and “Taking Your Blood Pressure Reading” sections. Replace the batteries. Err symbol displays. Do not talk or move during the measurement.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE 1. Disconnect the cuff tubing from the monitor and remove batteries prior to storing. 2. To clean the monitor, use a soft cloth and mild detergent to lightly wipe clean. Use a damp cloth (water) to remove dirt and excess detergent. 3. To clean the cuff, do NOT soak in water. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a soft cloth to clean the cuff’s surface. Use a damp cloth (water) to wipe clean. Allow cuff to air dry at room temperature.

INFORMACIÓN GENERAL ACERCA DE LA PRESIÓN ARTERIAL ¿Qué es la presión arterial? La presión arterial es la presión que ejerce la sangre contra las paredes de los vasos sanguíneos al circular por el cuerpo. Su corazón, que es el centro del sistema circulatorio, proporciona la fuerza para que la sangre fluya o circule. Cuando su corazón se contrae, o “late”, hace que la sangre circule por los vasos sanguíneos mediante un aumento de la presión.
INFORMACIÓN GENERAL ACERCA DE LA PRESIÓN ARTERIAL Por Qué Controlar la Presión Arterial en Hogar? Las visitas a los consultorios médicos pueden ser estresantes para el paciente y se sabe que el nerviosismo es un factor que eleva la presión sanguínea. Esta situación temporal de presión arterial elevada en e consultorio del médico se conoce comúnmente con el nombre de ‘síndrome del delantal blanco’.
INFORMACIÓN GENERAL ACERCA DE LA PRESIÓN ARTERIAL (cont.) Variaciones de la Preción Arterial Muchos factores influyen en la presión arterial y puede variar de un momento a otro. Normalmente, la presión arterial es más baja durante el sueño y se eleva durante el día. El gráfico a continuación representa las variaciones de la presión arterial durante el día con mediciones tomadas cada 5 minutos. Presión arterial (mmHg) La línea de puntos representa el período de sueño.

GUÍA VISUAL DE LA PRESIÓN ARTERIAL La Guía Visual de la Presión Arterial, ubicada a la izquierda de la pantalla, identificará la lectura dentro de un rango, conforme a las pautas establecidas por la Organización Mundial de la Salud. Para referencia, consulte el cuadro de abajo.
DETECCIÓN DE LATIDOS CARDÍACOS IRREGULARES Su monitor digital para la presión arterial presenta un Detección de Latidos del Corazón Irregulares. Si el monitor detecta un latido cardíaco irregular dos o más veces durante el proceso de medición, aparecerá el símbolo IHB (Frecuencia Cardíaca Irregular) en la pantalla, Fig. 1. Un latido cardíaco irregular se define como un ritmo que es 25 % más lento o más rápido que el ritmo promedio detectado mientras se mide la presión arterial sistólica y diastólica.
COLOCACIÓN/CAMBIO DE BATERÍAS 1. Deslice la tapa hacia arriba y retírela. 2. Coloque o cambie 4 baterías “AA” en el compartimiento, haciendo coincidir los símbolos de polaridad, Fig 1. 3. Para cerrarlo, vuelva a colocar la tapa y deslícela hacia abajo, hasta que haga clic y se ubique en su posición. Fig. 1 El monitor, las baterías y el brazalete deben desecharse de acuerdo con las reglamentaciones locales cuando ya no se los utilice.
CÓMO FIJAR LA FECHA/HORA Seleccione el banco de usuario adecuado. 1. Cuando la unidad está en modo OFF (apagada), presione el botón SET (ajustar) para ingresar en el modo de usuario. El símbolo Usuario 1 comenzará a titilar, Fig. 1. 2. Presione el botón MEMORY (memoria) para seleccionar Usuario 1 o Usuario 2 y pasar al ajuste de fecha/hora. Presione SET (ajustar) para confirmar. NOTA: Al ajustar la fecha/hora para el Usuario 1, se conservará de manera automática la misma fecha/hora para el Usuario 2.
AJUSTES DEL LENGUAJE POR VOZ Ajuste de voz 1. Presione el botón MEMORY (memoria) para pasar por los ciclos L1, L2 y OFF (apagado), tal como se muestra en la Fig. 4. CÓMO COLOCAR EL BRAZALETE DE PRESIÓN ARTERIAL Antes de colocarse el brazalete para la presión arterial, verifique que tenga el brazalete apropiado: El brazalete pequeño se adapta a la circunferencia del brazo: 8.66” – 14.17” (22 cm - 36 cm) Brazalete para adulto corresponde a circunferencia de brazo: 11.81" - 16.53" (30-42 cm) Brazalete para adulto grande corresponde a circunferencia de brazo: 16.53" - 18.
CÓMO TOMAR LA LECTURA DE LA PRESIÓN ARTERIAL Continúe únicamente luego de haber leído las secciones anteriores de este manual. 1. Coloque el monitor sobre una superficie plana y estable, con el panel de la pantalla digital a la vista. Introduzca el conector del tubo del brazalete en el lado izquierdo del monitor, Fig. 1.
CÓMO TOMAR LA LECTURA DE LA PRESIÓN ARTERIAL NOTA: El ajuste predeterminado del monitor es inflar el brazalete a 190 mmHg, aproximadamente. Luego de tres lecturas, el brazalete se inflará unos 40 mmHg más que el promedio de las últimas tres lecturas sistólicas de prueba almacenadas en la memoria. Si el sistema detecta que el brazalete requiere mayor presión, volverá a inflarse automáticamente unos 40 mmHg más que el último nivel de presión.
DESCRIPCIÓN DE LOS SÍMBOLOS DEL VISOR SYS Muestra las pulsaciones por minuto. Indica una medición dentro del Grado 3 de Hipertensión. Ocurre cuando se comete un error durante la medición. DIA SYS Aparece cuando se detecta ritmo cardíaco irregular durante la medición. Indica una medición dentro del Grado 2 de Hipertensión. DIA SYS Aparece cuando el brazalete está inestable o contiene demasiado aire. Una vez que la flecha ha dejado de titilar, la unidad está lista para tomar una medición.
ANÁLISIS DE FALLAS Si ocurriera una anomalía durante el uso, verifique y corrija lo siguiente: Condición Corrección El visor está en blanco cuando el botón de encendido está prendido Revise y corrija la polaridad de las baterías. Vuelva a colocar o cambie las baterías. Medición incompleta o aparecen valores anormalmente altos o bajos Revise y siga las secciones “Cómo Colocar el Brazalete de Presión Arterial” y “Cómo Tomar una Lectura de Presión Arterial”.
CUIDADO Y MANTENIMIENTO 1. Desconecte el tubo del brazalete del monitor y quite las baterías antes de guardar la unidad. 2. Para limpiar ligeramente el monitor, utilice un paño y un detergente suaves. Utilice un paño húmedo (con agua) para eliminar la suciedad y los restos de detergente. 3. Para limpiar el brazalete, NO lo sumerja en agua. Coloque una pequeña cantidad de alcohol en un paño suave para limpiar la superficie del brazalete. Utilice un paño húmedo (con agua) para terminar de limpiar.
