Q Is there any printed literature for the Hercules heating chemicals & anti-freeze products?
A Yes. LCS955B on Oatey.com features Sludgehammer products, but also contains information on all
Hercules heating chemicals.
Q What is the “Triple Protection Package” in Cryo-Tek anti-freeze?
A This is a patented formulation that is combined with virgin propylene glycol to prevent corrosion, prevent
scale, and maintain proper pH levels.
Q What are the differences between virgin propylene glycol and reclaimed/recycled propylene
glycol?
A Virgin propylene glycol has never been used previously. Some boiler manufacturers state in their
warranties that anti-freeze made with virgin propylene glycol is required or the warranty is voided.
Recycled propylene glycol is captured and cleaned after use (mainly for de-icing aircraft). It is then
considered a lower grade of propylene glycol and may still contain other ingredients even after cleaning.
Hercules Cryo-Tek anti-freeze is made only with virgin propylene glycol.
Q What can be measured with Cryo-Tek test strips?
A Each strip has two pads. One pad measures the level of propylene glycol, and the other measures the
level of corrosion inhibitor. These levels should be checked as part of routine boiler maintenance.
Q Are there specic products for aluminum boiler systems?
A Yes. Use Cryo-Tek 100AL anti-freeze for boilers with aluminum heat exchangers. Sludgehammer
Universal Corrosion Inhibitor and Sludgehammer System Restorer & Noise Reducer is compatible with all
metal heat exchangers, including aluminum.
