Physical Format

Media defects are remapped to the next available sector during the Format Process in manufacturing. The mapping

from Logical Block Address (LBA) to the physical Block locations is calculated using internally maintained tables.

6.1

Shipped Format (P-List)

 Data areas are optimally used.

 All pushes generated by defects are absorbed by available tracks of the inner notch.

Note: Defects are skipped without any constraint, such as track or cylinder boundary. The calculation from LBA to

physical is done automatically by internal table.

6.2

Reassigned Format (G-List)

• G-List has a capacity of 4401 Customer LBAs.

• Multiple reassignments of the same Customer LBA increase the number of G-List entries.

• Spare sectors use the media cache regions which are inserted after every 1400 nominal customer

tracks.
