To Whom It May Concern:
Re: Hilti GC 12 or GC 22 Gas Canisters / LEEDs Info.
I do not have formal test results to confirm this, but I am reasonably sure that 100% of the
contents of the GC 12/22 Gas Canisters are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). Normally on a
LEEDs project, the concern is that if chemical products with high VOC contents are used, then the
VOCs would be available to out-gas and detrimentally affect the indoor air quality (IAQ) of the
building. The Hilti GC 12/22 Gas Canisters should not adversely affect the IAQ since the gas is
consumed when the tool is fired.
Propane (which is also a VOC) is used to pressurize the canisters. This propane is contained in a
bladder inside the canisters and is not expelled from the canisters during the fastening process.
In conclusion, even though this product has a high VOC content, it should not adversely affect the
long-term IAQ of any building in which it is used.
