The Super-Saver Bunsen Jet radiant brooder uses a reliable hot surface ignition system to ignite the burner. The Bunsen styled burner’s flame impinges on the surface of the cast ceramic element. The heat is then transferred to the livestock in the form of radiant heat and convection heat. All controls are located on the gas inlet side of the controls enclosure. There is only one control switch, with an on and off position.

Use caution to keep the orifice bracket from becoming misaligned while tightening the orifice. Misalignment will cause poor operation.
7.1. Hanging the Unit 7.1.1. Hanging HSI Brooder with 48” Diameter Canopy The hanging kit for the 48”diameter brooder canopy includes a 14” chain and three 6” chains which must be attached as shown in Fig. 1 to ensure that the canopy will hang level. Join the three smaller chains in the center with a single S-hook. The three smaller chains will connect (with S-hooks) to the holes in the lower left and right hand side of the control enclosure, and to the suspension S-hook.
7.1.2. Hanging HSI Brooder with 34” Diameter Canopy The hanging kit for the 34” diameter Brooder canopy includes an 11” chain and two 6” chains which must be attached as shown in Fig. 2. The two 6” chains connect (with Shooks) to the lower left and right side of the control enclosure, and to the suspension Shook. The 11” chain will attach (with an S-Hook) to the hole in the top of the suspension rod directly opposite the controls enclosure, and to the suspension S-hook.
7.2. Gas Hookup 7.2.1. Connection of Gas Hose to Brooder Note: A brass hose barb fitting is included in the hardware kit as an optional attachment to the 1/8"x 5" nipple on the gas valve assembly. If brass hose barb is used, then apply some type of sealant or pipe dope to threads before screwing barb onto gas valve nipple. The following flowchart shows the minimum equipment for the operation of one brooder.
12. Remove gas pressure gauge, reinstall manifold pressure plug, knockout plug, and control enclosure lid [17]. 13. Reconnect brooder to power source and turn ON gas supply going to the brooder. 14. Return brooder to operation and observe through at least one complete cycle to ensure all controls are operating properly. 15. Perform gas leak test at outlet pressure tap plug. (Soap and water work well.) 8. Operating Instructions The brooder is simple to operate because it only has one switch.
