HOW TO SETUP YOUR NEW HITACHI PLASMA TELEVISION To take measures to prevent the Plasma Television from tipping over and prevent possible injury it is important to mount the unit in a stable place. Securing to a wall *Keep the Plasma Television four inches away from the wall except those hung to the wall mount bracket. NOTES: 1. Do not block the ventilation holes of the Plasma Television. Blocking the ventilation holes might cause fire or defect. 2.
Français VIEWING The major benefit of the HITACHI Plasma Television is its large viewing screen. To see this large screen at its best, test various locations in the room to find the optimum spot for viewing. The best picture is seen by sitting directly in front of the TV and about 8 to 18 feet from the screen. During daylight hours, reflections from outside light may appear on the screen.
HOOKUP CABLES Most video/audio connections between components can be made with shielded video and audio cables that have phono connectors. For best performance, video cables should use 75-Ohm coaxial shielded wire. Cables can be purchased from most stores that sell audio/video products. Below are illustrations and names of common connectors. Before purchasing any cables, be sure of the output and input connector types required by the various components and the length of each cable.
ANTENNA CONNECTIONS TO REAR PANEL JACKS Français English VHF (75-Ohm) antenna/CATV (Cable TV) When using a 75-Ohm coaxial cable system, connect the outdoor antenna or CATV coaxial cable to the ANALOG RF terminal (75-Ohm) and/or DIGITAL RF terminal (75-Ohm). VHF (300-Ohm) antenna/UHF antenna When using a 300-Ohm twin lead from an outdoor antenna, connect the VHF or UHF antenna leads to screws of the VHF or UHF adapter. Plug the adapter into the antenna terminal on the TV.
FRONT PANEL CONTROLS FRONT VIEW 42” PLASMA TV ① REMOTE CONTROL sensor Point your remote at this area when selecting channels, adjusting volume, etc. ② POWER light indicator To turn the PDP TV ON, press the main power button located on the BACK left side of the TV. A red stand-by indicator lamp located on the lower right corner of the front bezel will illuminate. The PDP TV is now ready for remote on/off operation.

REAR PANEL JACKS ⑨ S-VIDEO Inputs Provide S-VIDEO (Super Video) jacks for connecting equipment with S-VIDEO output capability. ⑩ COMPOSITE VIDEO Input By using the VIDEO button of the remote control, you can select Composite video source. Use the audio and video inputs to connect external devices, such as VCRs, camcorders, laserdisc players, DVD players etc. (if you have mono sound, insert the audio cable into the left(L) audio jack).
CONNECTING EXTERNAL SOURCES English The exact arrangement you use to connect the PC, VCR, camcorder, laserdisc player, DVD player, or HDTV Set Top Box to your Plasma TV is dependent on the model and features of each component. Check the owner’s manual of each component for the location of video and audio inputs and outputs. The following connection diagrams are offered as suggestions. However, you may need to modify them to accommodate your particular assortment of components and features.

Use an audio cable to connect the PDP’s audio output jacks to the line input jacks on the A/V receiver. 2. Connect all power sources before activating the PDP TV. 3. Turn on the PDP TV. 4. Press the MENU to display the menu, then press ▲ ▼ to select Audio. 5. Press SEL, then press W X to select subwoofer and press W X to select On/Off.

TIPS ON REAR PANEL CONNECTIONS • S-VIDEO or Y-PBPR connections are provided for high performance laserdisc players etc. that have this feature. Use these connections in place of the standard video connection if your device has this feature. • If your device has only one audio output (mono sound), connect it to the left(L) audio jack on the TV. • Connect only 1 component (VCR, DVD player, camcorder, etc.) to each input jack.

OSD (On-Screen Display) Video Adjusts the picture mode, brightness, contrast, color, tint, sharpness, color temperature and position of your display. Function Picture Mode Select a preset customized picture setting. Brightness Contrast Color Tint Adjusts the darkness and lightness of the display. Adjusts the color brightness of the display. Adjusts the saturation level of color. Adjusts the color properties. Sharpness Adjusts the clarity of images.
OSD (On-Screen Display) Image Adjust scaling, auto adjust, border color set, noise reduction, 3:2 pull down, clock phase and horizontal clock. Audio/Video Mode Image Function Options Select the screen sizes. Aspect (Available for 480i/480p/576i/576p signals.) (Please see “ASPECT” on page 26 for more information.) Select the screen sizes. SETTING UP THE V-CHIP Follow these steps to lock movies and TV programs: 1. Press the MENU button on the remote control to bring up the OSD menu. 2. Continue to press the ▼ button until the System icon is highlighted and press the SEL button to show the system functions. 3. Use the ▲▼ buttons to highlight V-chip, and then press the SEL button. 4. Enter 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1 as the default password to gain access. 5. Use the following table to set up your V-chip.
SETTING UP THE CLOSED CAPTION Closed Caption For some TV programs, PDP has the de-coding and “Close Caption” functions. This caption is usually served for the deaf or the foreign language translation. All VCRs can record Close Caption signals from TV programs, so videos will also show the “Close Caption” function. Follow these steps to use closed caption function: 1. Press the MENU button on the remote control to bring up the OSD menu. 2.

CARE OF YOUR HITACHI PLASMA TELEVISION AND YOUR REMOTE CONTROL DO Dust the screen and frame with a cleaning cloth from the accessories pack. Clean the screen and frame with a soft cloth moistened in warm water and dry with a soft cloth. A mild soap may be used if the screen is extremely dirty. Place your Plasma Television away from extreme heat, humidity, and extremely dusty places.
RECEPTION PROBLEMS • The display image appears scrolling diagonal. • Text displayed across the screen appears vertically streaked, with the characters in vertical columns blurred. • RADIO FREQUENCY INTERFERENCE: The interference produces moving ripples or diagonal streaks, and in some cases, causes loss of contrast in the picture. • PREVENTION OF AN OBSTACLE TO RADIO RECEIVERS This PDP TV has been designed pursuant to the FCC class B Rules.
