8 Maintenance
FIREli nk - 25 is a ver y l ow m aintenance detection system . If r equired, ext er nal cleaning of the unit should
be performed using a damp (not wet) c loth. Do not use solvent s as these may mar the front panel l abel.
The only part that may require f ield replacement during servicing is the dust separator assembl y. The
dust separator condi tion can be check ed usi ng the Dust Separator test i n the Mi scellaneous tab of the
remote softwar e ‘Detector settings’ screen (see sect ion 2.8.3) which gives a percentage reading of dust
separator effi ci enc y. When t his l ev el dr ops to 80% the detec tor wi ll signal a fault and the dust separat or
wil l need r eplacing. To r eplac e the fil ter, simply r em ove the front cover and pull the filter out from t he
m ai n unit. Slide the repl ac em ent fil ter in so that the ‘Direction of flow’ arrow printed on the car ton
duplicat es that on t he ‘Dir ec tion of flow’ label beside the filter sl ot.
As dust contained in the dust separat or s may expose m aintenance personnel t o a ‘Nuisance Dust‘ hazard
as defined by the ‘Contr ol of Substanc es Hazar dous to Health‘ (COSHH), it is strongl y r ec ommended that
suit able masks and protec tiv e clothing be worn when c hanging filters.
Used separators are not
intended for re-use and should be disposed of.
8.1 Diagnostics
The r em ote c ontrol software i nc ludes a diagnostic function whic h c ar ri es out a num ber of checks to v erify
the c or r ec t f unc tioning of the det ec tor. A good time to run these tests is as a part of planned
m ai ntenance. To call up diagnostic mode, select the m enu options View > Diagnost ics or clic k on the
symbol ind icated below:

The software will then scan t he loop for up t o 127 detectors. For a single detec tor, wait until the fir st
detec tor has been identified and the window indicates that it is scanning for Detector 2, t hen pr ess the
Cancel button.
