CSST Frequently Asked Questions
1. Can CSST be buried?
a. Yes, however it must be sleeved in a non-metallic conduit ½” larger than the pipe. The
underground section must not contain a fitting and it should be vented to the surface. If
connected to the homes metal pipe gas distribution, it should be bonded. See section 4.10 of

2. Is Home-Flex® CSST pipe certified?
a. HOME-FLEX CSST has been tested and certified by CSA and IAPMO for compliance with
the industry standard ANSI LC-1 / CSA 6.26, “Fuel Gas Piping Systems using Corrugated
Stainless Steel Tubing (CSST).
3. Are Home-Flex® products available for use in my area?
a. Home-Flex
®
CSST and Underground products meet all necessary requirements, but check
your local codes prior to purchase and installation.
4. Why CSST over black pipe?
a. 80% lighter, 70% faster (no cutting and threading of pipe) 50% labor saving.
5. Can I connect CSST to existing black pipe?
a. Yes. You can view a video at homeflex.com.
6. Can I connect CSST directly a gas appliance?
a. If it is a fixed appliance, yes. If not, we recommend terminating the HOME-FLEX pipe and
attaching a gas connector. You can view a video at homeflex.com.
7. Do I have to use Home-Flex® CSST gas fittings with Home-Flex® CSST pipe?
a. Yes, HOME-FLEX (previously name alpha-flex) will only work with HOME-FLEX, or alpha-
flex, tubing and fittings.
8. How do I get certified?
a. Thoroughly read the Home-Flex
®
Underground and CSST Design & Installation Manuals
available in the “Resource” section of this website. Then use the “get certified” button on the
site to answer a few basic questions. You will be emailed a pdf version of your certification
card for use with inspectors if required.
9. Do I have to be certified to purchase Home-Flex® CSST products?
a. No, but you do need to be certified to install Home-Flex CSST.
10. Does Home-Flex® CSST need to be bonded?
a. According to NFPA 54 Section 7.13, all gas systems must be electrically bonded. You can

11. How do I bond Home-Flex® CSST?
a. Please view the video at homeflex.com and read section 4.10 of the CSST System Design &
Installation Manual (also available in the “resources” section on homeflex.com).
12. Can I purchase HOME-FLEX® products directly from you?
a. No, we’re a distributor only and are not set up for direct consumer purchases.
