Intended Use
This gauge is intended for use in a preliminary pressure loss test of a fuel gas piping system after installation or
modification of that system.
Conduct your system leak test in accordance with the fuel gas code in effect for the location of your installation.
o Keep in mind that some codes specify the type of gauge that must be used when conducting an official leak
test and this gauge may not meet the requirements of that code.
It has a Schrader type, (bicycle tire) fill valve where you can attach a bicycle tire pump or air compressor hose to
fill your piping system with low pressure air.
o DO NOT use natural gas or propane to conduct the test.
Usage Instructions
Attach the gauge to a suitable location of your fuel gas piping system.

Gauge can be used for CSST, black iron, galvanized, and HDPE/MDPE underground poly pipe gas installations.
Isolate the newly installed section of your gas distribution system.
o Ensure gas valves (if applicable) are NOT in the test zone. They are generally rated for use with ¼ to ½
psi and will not hold 15 psi during the test period. A “false positive” is likely if this is not done.
Ensure adequate caps / plugs are used to isolate the new installation.
o Plastic thread and/or end protectors shipped with the pipe are not adequate to provide a proper seal.
Using a bicycle hand pump or low-pressure compressor, inflate the newly installed isolated system to prescribed
pressure.
o Indoor CSST, black iron, galvanized is usually 15 psi and/or 1½ times max operating pressure but never
below 3 psi. Hold for 15-30 minutes.
o Outside underground poly pipe installation are recommended to be tested at 15psi and held for 15-30
minutes.
Caution: Longer tests, especially overnight, are not recommended due to temperature and
barometric changes that can yield “false positive” results.
Make a mark with a Sharpie or a piece of masking tape on the face of the gauge to note the location of the
needle after system has been pressurized.
o If there is no detectable loss of pressure during the test period, you will have a suitable installation.
o Remove the test gauge and seal the pipe.
Once the gauge is removed, please know that the revised connection must be tested with a leak
detection fluid such as soapy water.
