The screws [2] cannot be fully tightened until the spacers [8] have been assembled.
PRE-OPERATION CHECK To carry out this series of checks, place the generating set on stable and horizontal ground, with the engine off. Be careful not to touch the hot metallic parts of the engine when checking the oil level. CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL CAUTION: • The engine oil is an important factor which affects the engine’s performance and its operational life. • Running the engine with insufficient oil can seriously damage the engine.
PRE-OPERATION CHECK CHECKING THE FUEL LEVEL SAFETY 7 9 1. Remove the fuel filler cap and check the level. Fill up if the level is low. Do not over-fill the tank. After having filled the tank, check that the fuel filler cap is tightened as far as it will go. DO NOT LEAVE FUEL WITHIN REACH OF CHILDREN. CAUTION: • Never use dirty or old Diesel fuel. • Take care to ensure that no dirt or water gets in the fuel tank. Capacity of fuel tank: 4.
GENERATING SET USE STARTING THE ENGINE SAFETY 2 4 5 6 CAUTION: • Never start-up the generating set with devices connected to the receptacles, this could cause their deterioration. 1. Put the stopping lever [1] on position “I” (fully raised to the limit stop). 2. Put the engine speed lever [2] on position SLOW (fully lowered to the limit stop). 2 1 3. Pull lightly on the recoil starter grip until you feel it resists, then pull sharply.
GENERATING SET USE OIL SAFETY SYSTEM The oil safety system is intended to avoid any risk of damage to the engine caused by a lack of oil in the lower housing. As soon as the oil level has reached a safety limit, the oil safety system releases the decompression lever [1] which, on raising, automatically stops the engine. The stopping and the engine speed levers remain in ON position. In this case, the engine will not restart. Top up the oil as indicated on page 9.
GENERATING SET USE OPERATION OF THE GENERATING SET SAFETY 8 10 11 Your Honda generating set is a reliable piece of equipment, developed to ensure your safety. It can help you carry out work more easily and bring improvements to your leisure time, but there is also a risk of electrocution if you do not follow strictly the instructions for use given in this chapter. • • • • • • • • • • • • Never connect the generating set to a main socket.
GENERATING SET USE INFORMATION ON THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE GENERATING SET The generator windings are not connected to the earth; the system is thus safe by construction and limits the risks of electrocution. It is strictly forbidden to connect the coils to the generator earth, except when using a 30 mA differential circuit breaker for the protection of persons. The installation of such a device must be carried out by a specialist electrician and requires all appliances to be earthed.
GENERATING SET USE This type of generating set is fitted with a thermal circuit breaker which acts as a protection against overload. If the distribution of electric current is interrupted during use, this might be caused by an overload tripping the thermal circuit breaker. In this case, wait a few moments, eliminate the cause of overloading, then reset the thermal circuit breaker by pressing the knob [1] located next to each receptacle or switch the knob [2] (ECT6D).
MAINTENANCE To ensure that the generating set performs correctly and has a long working life, it is essential that the maintenance schedule be observed. SAFETY 5 7 CAUTION: • The engine and the muffler reach temperatures sufficient to cause burns if touched and to start a fire if adjacent to inflammable material. Allow the engine to cool for 15 minutes before carrying out any maintenance. • Only use original Honda parts or their equivalent.
MAINTENANCE CHANGING THE OIL CAUTION: • Prolonged and frequent contact with used engine oil can cause skin cancer. Although this is unlikely, it is sensible to wash your hands thoroughly after handling used engine oil. Drain the oil while the engine is still warm so that the oil flows out quickly and completely. 1. Remove the oil filler cap [1] and the drain plug [2]. 2. Put the drain plug [2] back on, complete with its ring seal [3] and tighten fully. 3.
MAINTENANCE SERVICING THE AIR CLEANER The engine will not run properly if the air cleaner is dirty: it is very important that the air cleaner is serviced regularly. Never use petrol or inflammable solvents to clean air cleaner elements: these products can cause fire and damage the air cleaner elements. 1. Remove the wing nut [1] and the air cleaner cover [2]. Remove the wing nut [5], withdraw the elements [3] and [4] and separate them. Check that the two elements are not torn of blocked.
MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE OF THE ENGINE OIL FILTER A clogged or blocked oil filter may cause damage to the engine. The oil filter must be maintained regularly according to the quality of the oil used and the conditions of use of the generating set. Cleaning 1. Drain the oil from the engine (see page 17). 2. Withdraw the filter element [1] from the engine by removing the two 6 mm screws [2] and the closing plate [3]. 3. Wash the filter element in a non-flammable solvent and leave to dry completely.
MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE OF SPARK ARRESTER The muffler reaches sufficiently high temperatures to cause burns when the engine is running and remains hot for a while after stopping. If the generating set has just been used, leave to cool afterwards. 1. Loosen the collar clamp [1] of the muffler tube. Remove the spark arrester [2], taking care not to damage it. 2. Use a wire brush to remove the deposits of calamine from the spark arrester. 3. Check the spark arrester and replace it if it is worn or torn. 4.
TRANSPORTING - STORAGE TRANSPORTING THE GENERATING SET When moving the generator set, always place it horizontally, with the fuel filler cap properly closed to avoid any leakage. CAUTION: • Do not lift the generating set using the transport grips. • Wedge the wheels firmly and strap the set correctly during transport in a vehicle. STORAGE FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD SAFETY 5 1. Ensure that the storage area is not damp or dusty. 2.
TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Engine will not start Starting is difficult or the engine stalls No current from the receptacles Probable cause 1. The stopping lever is at position “0" 11 2. The engine oil level is too low 9 3. Electrical appliances are connected to the receptacles 1. The air cleaner is dirty 18 2. There is water or impurities in the fuel tank 19 3. The fuel pipes are faulty 1. The thermal circuit breaker has not been reset 2.
