2. Pull the starter grip lightly until resistance is felt, and then return the

grip to its original position.

NOTE: If the engine is equipped with an electric starter, raise the decom-

pression lever.

3. Pull the starter grip briskly. (On electric start models the decompression

lever will snap down automatically when the starter grip is pulled.1

NOTE: Repeat steps 2 and 3 if the engine does not start.

l Do not allow the starter grip to snap back against the engine. Return it

gently to prevent damage to the starter.

l Pulling the starter grip while the engine is running could result in engine

damage.
