TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS
CorrectionEngine Will Not Start Possible Cause
Engine Lacks Power Possible Cause Correction
Move choke lever to
CLOSED position
unless engine is warm.
Move throttle lever to
start position on a
warm.
Turn ignition switch to
ON.
Refuel (p. 28 )
Drain fuel tank and
carburetor (p. 48 ).
Refuel with fresh
gasoline (p. 28 ).
Gap or replace
spark plug (p. 38 ).
Dry and reinstall spark
plug. Start engine with
throttle lever in FAST
position, with choke
lever in OPEN position.
Replace or repair faulty
components as
necessary.
Check control
positions.
Check fuel.
Remove and inspect
spark plug.
Take engine to an
authorized Honda
servicing dealer, or
refertoshopmanual.
Check air filter.
Check fuel.
Take engine to an
authorized Honda
servicing dealer, or
refertoshopmanual.
Air filter element
clogged.
Bad fuel; pump stored
without treating or
draining gasoline, or
refueled with bad
gasoline.
Fuel filter clogged,
carburetor malfunction,
ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.
Clean or replace filter
element (p. 36 ).
Drain fuel tank and
carburetor (p. 48 ).
Refuel with fresh
gasoline (p. 28 ).
Replace or repair faulty
components as
necessary.
Choke open.
Improper throttle
position.
Ignition switch OFF.
Out of fuel.
Bad fuel; pump stored
without treating or
draining gasoline, or
refueled with bad
gasoline.
Spark plug faulty,
fouled, or improperly
gapped.
Spark plug wet with
fuel (flooded engine).
Fuel filter clogged,
carburetor malfunction,
ignition malfunction,
valves stuck, etc.
