Flash Modes
1 Press the four-way controller (4) in Capture mode.
The flash mode changes each time the button is pressed and the icon
appears on the LCD monitor.
The camera is ready to take pictures in the selected flash mode.

Auto
The flash discharges automatically depending on the light
conditions.

Flash Off
The flash will not discharge, regardless of the brightness.
Use this mode to take pictures at dusk or in museums etc.
where flash photography is prohibited.

Flash On The flash discharges regardless of the brightness.

Auto + Red-eye
reduction
This mode reduces the phenomenon of red eyes caused
by the light from the flash being reflected in the subject’s
eyes. The flash discharges automatically.

Red-eye reduction
This mode reduces the phenomenon of red eyes caused by
the light from the flash being reflected in the subject’s eyes.
The flash will discharge regardless of lighting conditions.
• The flash is off when the Capture mode is set to C, the Drive mode is set
to Continuous Shooting or the Focus mode is set to H.
• The flash discharges twice, first a pre-flash and then a second time to take
the picture. (In the red-eye reduction modes, the interval between the pre-
flash and the main flash is longer.)
• Flash effective range (effective range changes according to the sensitivity
and shooting conditions)
Wide: Approximately 0.2 m to 4.9 m
(in Auto Sensitivity: Approximately 0.2 m to 4.4 m)
Tele: Approximately 0.2 m to 2.8 m
(in Auto Sensitivity: Approximately 0.2 m to 2.5 m)
