Quick Installation Guide Identify System Type This thermostat is compatible with the following systems: • Gas, oil or electric furnace • Central air conditioner • Hot water system with or without pump • Millivolt system • Central heating and cooling system • Gas fireplace Do you need assistance? Quick Installation Guide 2 Remove Old Thermostat Remove old thermostat but leave wallplate with wires attached. MERCURY NOTICE Do not put your old thermostat in the trash if it contains mercury in a sealed tube. Contact your local waste management authority for instructions regarding recycling and proper disposal.
RTH1100 3 Identify Wires If any wires are not attached to your old thermostat or are attached to a terminal marked C or C1, they will not be connected to your new thermostat. Wrap the bare metal end of each of these wires with electrical tape, so it cannot touch and short other wires. Do not use non-connected wires. Do not use C or C1 wires. Identify and label each wire. IGNORE WIRE COLORS: Use terminal screw designations to identify wires.
Quick Installation Guide 4 Separate Wallplate from New Thermostat Mount the new wallplate using the included screws and anchors. 1. Remove cover plate. 2. Loosen screw (the screw remains captive on wallplate). 3. Remove thermostat.
RTH1100 5 Mount Wallplate 1. Mark and drill appropriate mounting holes. M29989 2. Insert Plastic anchors. 3. Pass wires through opening of wallplate and secure wallplate to the wall using provided screws.
Quick Installation Guide 6 Connect Wires (typical wiring) 1. Match each labeled wire with the terminal having the same letter. Remove jumper if you have both R and Rc wires. Rh Rc W Y G M29990 2. Loosen the terminal screws using a screwdriver, insert the wires, then lighten the screws. 3. Push any excess wire back into the wall opening. Labels don’t match? If a wire does not match any terminal designation, see next page.
RTH1100 6 Connect Wires (alternate wiring) If labeled wire does not match any terminal designation, see diagram below. Rh Rc W Y G M29991 Do not use C, X or B. Wrap bare end of wire with electrical tape. If wires are connected to both Rh and Rc terminals, remove jumper (see previous page).
Quick Installation Guide 7 Set Heating Fan Control Set jumper, on the back of the thermostat, if you have connected a wire to the G terminal. HG Leave the jumper in this factory-set position if you have a gas or oil furnace. HE Place the jumper to this position if you have an electric furnace. Jumper M29992 Incorrect jumper setting: An incorrect setting is noticeable in a gas or oil heating system.
RTH1100 8 Install Batteries 1. Pull out the battery cover. 2. Install two AA alkaline batteries. M29993 3. Reinstall the battery cover.
Quick Installation Guide 9 Install Thermostat onto Wallplate 1. Mount the thermostat on the wallplate. 2. Tighten the screw and install the cover plate.
RTH1100 10 Turn Power Back On Turn the power back on to the heating/cooling system.

Advanced Installation Guide Troubleshooting WIRING If you have difficulty with your thermostat, please try the following suggestions. Most problems can be corrected quickly and easily. Display is blank • Make sure fresh AA alkaline batteries are correctly installed (see page 9). Temperature settings do not change • Make sure heating and cooling temperatures are set to acceptable ranges: • Heat: 40° to 90°F (4.5° to 32°C).
RTH1100 Troubleshooting Heating or cooling system does not respond • Move SYSTEM switch to set system to Heat. Make sure the temperature is set higher than the Inside temperature. • Move SYSTEM switch to set system to Cool. Make sure the temperature is set lower than the Inside temperature. • Make sure power switch at heating & cooling system is on. • Wait 5 minutes for the system to respond. or is flashing • Compressor protection feature is engaged.

RTH1100 5 Monte la placa de montaje 1. Marque y perfore los agujeros de montaje apropiados (o use los existentes). M29989 2. Introduzca los anclajes plásticos. 3. Pase los cables por la abertura de la placa mural y asegure la placa a la pared con los tornillos provistos.

Rh Rc W Y G M29990 2. Afloje los cables del terminal con un destornillador, introduzca los cables y luego ajuste los tornillos. 3. Empuje el exceso de cables en el agujero de la pared. ¿Las etiquetas no coinciden? Si un cable no corresponde con ningún terminal del termostato, refiérase a la página siguiente.
RTH1100 6 Conecte los cables (conexión alternativa) Si un cable etiquetado no coincide con la designación de ningún terminal, refiérase al diagrama siguiente: Rh Rc W Y G M29991 No use C, X o B. Enrosque el extremo desnudo con cinta aisladora. Si los cables están conectados con los terminales Rh y Rc, retire el puente (ver la página anterior).

HG Deje el puente en este ajuste de fábrica en el caso de una estufa a gas o a aceite HE Ponga el puente en esta posición en el caso de una estufa eléctrica. Puente M29992 Ajuste incorrecto del puente: un ajuste incorrecto es evidente en un sistema de gas o de aceite.
RTH1100 8 Instale las pilas 1. Retire la tapa del compartimiento para las pilas. 2. Instale dos baterías alcalinas AA. M29993 3. Ponga la tapa nuevamente en su lugar.
