1 System description
This chapter provides an overview of the Enterprise Virtual Array and its components.
Introduction
The HP Storage
Works Enterprise Virtual Array is a high performance, scaled capacity on demand,
"virtua l" RAI
D storage solution. A complement of the current m odular array family of StorageWorks
solutions (e
ma8000/ema12000/ema16000), it can coexist in the same Fibre Channel SAN while
providing 2-Gbps end-to-end Fibre Channel technology readiness.
The Enterprise Virtual Array is available in multiple configurationsin22U,36U,41U,and42Uracks.
Each configuration is optimized for g eneral-purpose commercial environments and high-performance
technical computing environments. The solutions include support for multivendor operating system
platforms a nd stringent data center availability enhancements, such as multipathing and clustering. Refer
to the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array Release Notes for information on supported operating
systems, Fibre Channel adapters, driver firmware versions, and other support data.
There are two main Enterprise Virtual Array products: EVA 5000 and EVA 3000. The EVA5000 is
availabl
einmultipleconfigurations, ranging from the single-rack 2C2D c on fig uration to the multi-rack 2
x2C12D+0
C12D configuration. The EVA 3000 is available in various con figurations, ranging from
the 2C2D c
onfiguration to the 2C4D configuration. The EVA5000 uses the HSV110 controller, a nd the
EVA3000 uses the HSV100 controller. (See the HP StorageWorks Enterprise Virtual Array Ha rdware
Configuration Guide for more information about racks and configurations.)
