3 Choosing Network Connections
1. Review the possible network connections.

“General Considerations” (page 22)2. Review general network information for Remote Copy.
Storage systems in a Remote Copy pair are connected through a dedicated link or through a
network, as illustrated in Figure 8 (page 21).

IP Networks
CAUTION: Remote Copy over IP (RCIP) subnets must be dedicated to Remote Copy.
The GigE interface and the management Ethernet port of an HP 3PAR Storage System controller
node must be on different IP subnets.
If you configure the interface and port on the same subnet, Remote Copy packets might go
over the management port and would therefore not be available to the Remote Copy software.
Hosts that access the HP 3PAR Storage Systems for management purposes must not be on the
same subnet as the RCIP ports.
If you add host computers to the Remote Copy subnet, IP packets might arrive through the
management interfaces and leave through the RCIP interfaces.
Be sure you understand the IP network that will be used to connect the storage systems.
When you have more than one storage system at the same location, they could be on the
same subnet. However, storage systems connected over an IP network are usually separated
by a large distance and are therefore on different IP subnets.
If the storage systems are on different subnets:
Each storage system must be connected to a gateway router or switch on that subnet.
An IP cloud must exist between their gateways.
