Chapter Introducing EZSwitchSetup 1 Brocade EZSwitchSetup is a graphical user interface (GUI) that enables administrators to configure and manage single-switch fabrics from a standard workstation. EZSwitchSetup allows less-experienced users to set up and manage a switch. 1 Requirements, Installation, and Support Requirements, Installation, and Support Before you install the EZSwitchSetup on your workstation, verify that your switch and workstation meet the requirements listed in the following section. REQUIREMENTS EZSwitchSetup requires any browser that conforms to HTML version 4.0, JavaScript version 1.0, and Java Plug-in 1.6.0 or higher. The EZSwitchSetup installation CD automatically installs the correct Java Runtime Environment (JRE).

1 Requirements, Installation, and Support LANGUAGE SUPPORT FOR EZSWITCHSETUP The EZSwitchSetup wizard and the Switch Manager interface display the following languages: • • • • • • • • • • English (default) Brazilian Portuguese French German Italian Japanese Korean Simplified Chinese Spanish Traditional Chinese When you launch EZSwitchSetup, the interface detects the operating system and language environment and installs and displays the appropriate language.

2 Install and Run the EZSwitchSetup Wizard On Linux, follow the procedure “To launch the EZSwitchSetup wizard” on page 6 to launch the wizard. FIGURE 3 EZSwitchSetup Installer To launch the EZSwitchSetup wizard • On Windows: From the Start menu, select Programs > EZSwitchSetup > EZSwitchSetup • On Linux: Navigate to the following path location on the CD-ROM: /CDROM_Installers/Linux/Disk1/InstData/VM/install.bin CAUTION The Linux installation requires root access, otherwise it will be aborted.
Power Up and Connect Cables to the Switch 2 The EZSwitchSetup wizard launches, as shown in Figure 4 and gives you a choice between setting the switch’s IP address using a serial connection or the DHCP server located in your network environment. FIGURE 4 EZSwitchSetup Wizard Power Up and Connect Cables to the Switch The next step is to power up and connect cables to the switch, as directed by the EZSwitchSetup wizard. Figure 5 on page 8 shows an example of cabling a Brocade switch.
2 Power Up and Connect Cables to the Switch 3. Connect the serial cable from the switch to your setup computer. The serial cable used is not a null modem cable. If you cannot locate the serial cable that came with the switch, use a female-to-female, DB9 connector with the pins 2, 3, and 5.
Set Up the Switch IP Address 2 Set Up the Switch IP Address After you cable the switch, you set up the switch IPv4 andIPv6 addresses. Once the IP addresses have been set they cannot be deleted, only edited. There are two ways that you can set up the IP addresses. The first way is to use a serial connection described next and the second way is using a DHCP server.
2 Set Up the Switch IP Address 2. To set up IPv6 addresses a. Enter the IPv4 address and click Configure IPv6. b. Enter the IPv6 address and CIDR block. c. Click OK. d. Click Next. NOTE IPv6 is not supported in RedHat Linux9 OS. FIGURE 7 IPv6 dialog EZSwitchSetup verifies that the switch is accessible over the ethernet connection and that no other switch has the same IP address. The switch returns its unique World Wide Name (WWN).
Set Up the Switch IP Address 2 3. Click Continue in the Confirmation screen. A browser window opens and loads the configuration wizard from the switch. This process might take a few minutes. The EZSwitchSetup Switch Configuration wizard launches and the Switch Configuration Welcome screen displays. If your switch discovery fails, see Figure 2 on page 12 for details on how to recover your switch. To set up the switch IP addresses using DHCP 1.
2 Set Up the Switch IP Address SWITCH DISCOVERY FAILURE During the setup of your switch, the switch discovery may fail. There may be several reasons why switch discovery fails. Table 2 lists symptoms and related suggestions to recover the switch: TABLE 2 Discovery recovery Symptom Correction The setup computer COM port is busy. The port is being controlled by another communications program. Stop all other third-party communications programs. The port settings are in conflict with another device.
Configure the Switch 2 Configure the Switch The EZSwitchSetup Switch Configuration wizard helps you set up or change current switch parameters and configure the zoning for your switch. Unlike the EZSwitchSetup wizard, which stepped you through to setting up the hardware, this wizard steps you through the final process of changing your administrative password and zoning. 2 Select Zoning • Custom Zoning allows you to customize which initiators access which targets, but you do not want to configure the zones yourself. The HBAs and storage devices should already be connected to the switch. Custom Zoning provides a device accessibility matrix for you to modify; it then automatically creates zones based on that matrix. Custom Zoning supports only single-switch fabrics.

Click the onscreen ports to change them to either a Host (H) or a Storage (S) Port. Configure the switch for your intended use of the ports. For example, if you plan on attaching two hosts and six storage devices, click the port where these devices are attached to specify the hosts and storage ports respectively.
2 Select Zoning a. Enter the number of HBA connections that you want to configure and are currently connected to the switch. You can change this setting later if you want to add or remove HBA connections. b. Enter the number of storage connections you want to configure and are currently connected to the switch. You can change this setting later if you want to add or remove storage connections. 2. Click Next. The Connect Devices screen displays (Figure 14 on page 17).
Connect Devices and Complete the Setup 2 Connect Devices and Complete the Setup The final step in the Switch Configuration wizard is to connect the devices to your switch according to the Typical Zoning scheme. The Connect Devices screen (see Figure 14) displays a graphical representation of the switch with the defined device connections. The Connect Devices screen provides feedback as you cable the switch.

Connect Fibre Channel cables from the switch to your host and storage devices. Make the physical connections exactly as indicated on the Device Connection screen. 18 a.

You are now ready to configure the storage component of the SAN using the documentation that came with the storage server. If you want to monitor the switch, then you need to launch the EZSwitchSetup Switch Manager. See Chapter 3, “Managing Your Switch” for instructions on using this interface.

3 Launching the EZSwitchSetup Switch Manager Switch Manager supports only single-switch fabrics. If your switch is connected to another switch, Switch Manager displays a message and exits. If this happens, you must disconnect the switch from all other switches and then relaunch EZSwitchSetup Switch Manager.
About the Switch Manager - 3 Web Tools (see Figure 19). This interface launches if the switch was previously configured with the command line interface (CLI) or Web Tools. See the Web Tools Administrator’s Guide for instructions for using this interface NOTE Use the configure command on CLI to set Web Tools attributes to determine if EZSwitchSetup Switch Manager or Web Tools launches. See the Fabric OS Command Reference for information on the configure command.
3 About the Switch Manager The Switch Manager works for a single-switch fabric only. It displays only the switch and associated tasks, without fabric information. Figure 20 shows an example of the initial Switch Manager screen for the Brocade 200E. If you have a Brocade 3250, 4100, 4900, or 5000 switch, your screen might vary. The following sections describe the components of the screen.
About the Switch Manager 3 The Devices tasks enables you to view the devices attached to the switch, display the device connections, and modify a device alias. The Zoning tasks enables you to view the zoning on the device, edit the zoning, validate the zoning, or restore the default fixed zoning. The Miscellaneous tasks include refreshing the onscreen data, advanced management of the switch, and logging out. The switch’s Port Information page is shown by default when Switch Manager launches.
3 Managing Switch Manager Sessions The right side of the status bar lists your user name, your role, and the IP address of the switch to which you are connected. Managing Switch Manager Sessions A session is defined as the connection between the Switch Manager client and its managed switch. A session is established when you log in to a switch through EZSwitchSetup. A session remains in effect until one of the following happens: • You log out. • The session times out due to inactivity.
Managing the Switch 3 2. Type your user name. 3. Type the password. If your current password has expired, you must also provide a new password and confirm the new password. 4. Click OK. LOGGING OUT You can end your Switch Manager session either by logging out or by closing the browser window. All windows belonging to the session are invalidated (after a short delay they become greyed out and unusable, but you must close them manually).
3 Managing the Switch Figure 22 displays the Switch View for a Brocade 200E switch. The Switch View differs depending on the type of switch. FIGURE 22 Graphical View of Switch SWITCH VIEW The Switch View is a real-time view of switch and port status. The display is updated approximately once every 15 seconds.
Managing the Switch 3 This will bring up the legend dialog box as shown in Figure 23 which shows the status indicators that could appear on the fan, temperature, or power supply button. FIGURE 23 Fan, temperature, and power supply legend To view fan, temperature or power supply status • Click the Fan, Temp, or Power button. This will bring up the associated dialog box. Figure 24 shows the Number of Fans and their state.
3 Managing the Switch The power supply dialog displays the number of power supplies in the switch and their status. FIGURE 26 Power supply status PORT STATUS The Switch View displays port graphics with blinking LEDs, simulating the physical appearance of the ports. Two LEDs are associated with each port: one of the LEDs indicates port status; the other indicates port speed. For LED information, see the hardware documentation for the switch you are viewing.
Managing the Switch 3 Holding your mouse over the port icon displays the port number, port type, and port status, as shown below. 3 Managing the Switch You can optionally change the switch name, switch time, and admin password. When prompted, you must select a zoning configuration. ENABLE INACTIVE PORTS EZSwitchSetup Switch Manager allows you to enable Ports On Demand (POD) if you have a license available. To add a POD license 1. Click Enable Inactive Ports under Switch in the task panel. A dialog box displays. FIGURE 32 Add Ports On Demand 2. Enter the license key to add the additional ports. 3. Click Add.
Managing Devices 3 Managing Devices Click View under Devices in the task panel to display a table of information for all of the connected devices (see Figure 33 below). The entries in the table are based on the device WWNs, so a single physical device can have more than one entry in the table.

To view the device connections 1. Click Display Connections under Devices in the task panel.
Managing Devices 3 If Typical zoning is set on the switch, Switch Manager validates the connections and displays whether the connections are valid or invalid. FIGURE 35 Display Connections Page ASSIGNING DEVICE ALIASES Every device has a device name and an alias name. Alias names make it easier to reference the devices. Alias names are displayed in the zone access map on the Zoning page. You can assign or rename the alias names using the following procedure.
3 Managing Devices To assign or rename device aliases 1. Click Modify Alias under Devices in the task panel. This launches the Define Device Alias wizard. FIGURE 36 Define Device Aliases Wizard 2. Double-click a field in the New Alias column to edit that alias. 3. Click OK when you are done. The wizard also prompts you to delete the aliases of any offline devices. Follow the instructions in the wizard.
Managing Devices 3 This section provides instructions for validating and modifying the zoning configuration and restoring zoning to the factory default (Typical zoning) setting. Device accessibility depends on how zoning is set up on the switch. Zoning enables you to partition your storage area network (SAN) into logical groups of devices that can access each other. For more specific information about zoning concepts, see the Fabric OS Administrator’s Guide. To view the zone view 1.
3 Managing Devices CHOOSING A ZONING CONFIGURATION EZSwitchSetup requires you to select a zoning configuration from among the following types: • Typical zoning Typical zoning is a preconfigured default zoning setup that is set at the factory. It enforces the rule of one HBA port zoned with one storage port on a single switch. Typical zoning is hard zoning; each zone member is identified by the default switch domain (1) and a port number.
Managing Devices 3 If no devices are connected to the switch, or if only storage devices or only HBAs are connected, then the Switch Manager displays a message and the Edit Zoning wizard does not launch. FIGURE 38 Edit Zoning Wizard 2. Follow the instructions in the wizard to modify the zoning configuration. The first panel in the wizard displays a graphic view of the existing device connections. You must connect all of the devices to the switch at this time.
3 Accessing Web Tools for Advanced Management To validate the zoning configuration and remove offline devices 1. Click Validate under Zoning in the task panel. The Validate Zoning wizard launches. 2. Follow the instructions in the wizard. 3. Note any devices that are not zoned properly and, after exiting the wizard, click Edit to update the zone configuration.

The dialog title may vary, because it indicates which module is having the problem. This is caused by the loss of HTTP connection with the switch, due to a variety of possible problems.
