Version 6.0.0b NOTE: This software conforms to the Fibre Channel Standards in a manner consistent with accepted engineering practices and procedures. Effective date February 2008 Description Fabric OS 6.0.0b integrates many new features, including: • New security features • 1 MB security database • Active Directory support (all platforms) • Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS) compliance (certification in progress with Fabric OS 6.
New hardware support At the time of this Fabric OS 6.0.0b firmware release, no new hardware is supported. Supported product models Product models that can be upgraded to Fabric OS 6.
Operating systems See http://www.hp.com/go/san for a list of operating systems. Access Gateway support Access Gateway is supported in the following HP products only: • Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP p-Class BladeSystem (Brocade 4012) • Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem (Brocade 4024) • HP StorageWorks 4/16 SAN Switch (Brocade 200E) IMPORTANT: The HP StorageWorks 4/8 SAN Switch, although using the same hardware as the 4/16 SAN Switch, does not support Access Gateway.
New features in Fabric OS 6.0.0b This section lists Fabric OS 6.0.0b features and improvements: 1MB security database Fabric OS now supports a security database up to 1MB in size, four times the previous 256KB database. This database, which is used to store DCC, SCC, and FCS policies, can now accommodate ACL security settings for environments with up to approximately 14,000 attached devices. This is supported on all platforms except the 4/8 SAN Switch and 4/16 SAN Switch.
Access Gateway enhancements Auto Port Configuration (APC) policy Provides the ability to automatically discover port types (host versus fabric) and dynamically update the routing maps when a new connection is detected. This policy is intended for a fully hands-off operation. Multi-fabric connectivity Fabric OS 6.x allows an Access Gateway enabled product to connect to multiple fabrics. This is done through partitioning related host and fabric connections into independently operated groups.
IMPORTANT: The Fabric OS versions listed in the Earliest compatible version column below are the earliest versions supported by HP at the time Fabric OS 6.0.0b released. Table 1 Current supported Fabric OS versions Model Earliest compatible version HP StorageWorks 1 Gb Switch Not supported, end of support (December 2007) HP StorageWorks SAN Switch 2/8 EL, HPStorageWorks SAN Switch 2/16, MSA SAN Switch 2/8 3.2.1b 3.2.
4/256 SAN Director blade support Fabric OS 6.x is fully qualified and supports the Director blades listed in Table 2. Table 2 4/256 SAN Director blade support matrix with chassis option 5 Director blade Number of blades FC4-16 FC4-32 FC4-48 Supported with Fabric OS 5.3 and later with any mix (up to eight of each). No restrictions around intermix.
Important notes Table 3 provides information you should know prior to upgrading to Fabric OS 6.0.0b. Table 3 Important release information Topic Description HP StorageWorks B-Series MP Router Blade (FR4-18i) The FR4-18i ships with Fabric OS 6.x. If inserted into a chassis running a version of firmware that is different than the revision level currently on the blade, the blade firmware will be upgraded or downgraded to match the firmware revision on the chassis.
Topic Description FC4-48 port blade for the 4/256 SAN Director • The configure command only gives a maximum login per port setting. The command allows over 127, where ports for the FC4-48 blade will honor that value as long as its share areas values are 127 or less. • Before replacing a FC4-32 blade with an FC4-48 blade, restore ports 16–31 of the FC4-32 blade if these ports are used for port swapping. Failure to do so will fault the FC4-48 blade.
Topic Description IPSec for FR4-18i blade and 400 Multi-protocol Router • IPSec implementation details: • Pre-shared key • Main mode (IKE negotiation protocol) • Tunnel mode in Encapsulating Security Payload (ESP) • IPSec specific statistics not provided • No NAT or IPv6 support • Jumbo frames will not be supported on secure tunnels. • Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) redirect is not supported for IPSec-enabled tunnels. • Only a single secure tunnel will be allowed on a port.
Topic Description Fabric Merge Do not try to merge fabrics with conflicting domain IDs over a VE_Port. Before merging two fabrics over FC-IP with VE_Ports at each end, it is recommended that all domain ID and zoning conflicts are resolved. Scalability • Support for Default Zoning policies have been added to Fabric OS 5.1.0. Typically, when you issue the cfgDisable command in a large fabric with thousands of devices, the name server indicates to all hosts that they can communicate with each other.
Topic Description FC fast Write • Only World Wide Name (WWN) zone (including normal zone and FC Fast Write zone) is supported on FC Fast Write enabled port. • Only single device loop port is supported. • N_Port ID Virtualization (NPIV) (example Access Gateway) port is not supported. • FCR backbone devices are not supported. That is FC Fast Write should not be enabled on backbone devices.
Additional Fabric OS 6.x enhancements Additional Fabric OS 6.x enhancements include: • Provides new Fabric OS commands to rename an alias, a zone and a zone configuration. Zone –copy copies the zone object to a new zone object. Zoneobjectrename renames the zone object. • Detects and handles a corrupted zone configuration [under /etc/fabos/zone*] gracefully instead of rebooting. The switch also logs the error in RASLog.
Closed defect summary Solution Running in a fabric with a non B-Series switch that does not support the ESS command, the B-Series switch eventually runs out of memory. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 Configdefault does not completely remove all the FCIP tunnels and GigE IP address information. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 4/256 SAN Director with Fabric OS 5.2.0a -- switch keeps rebooting itself. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 iswitchd panic when doing data migration using DMM. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.
Closed defect summary Solution GPN_NN returns VI PID and PWWN in FR mode. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 FCIP tunnel gets deleted when swapping the tunnel IDs of two existing tunnels and one of the IDs fails to change. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 Documentation updated regarding minicycle command in system verification. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 Disabled E port is incorrectly displayed as In-Sync when it is the ISL link between a 4/256 SAN Director and a Core Switch 2/64 or SAN Director 2/128.
Closed defect summary Solution IPFC: ping to broadcast address FAILS. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 portshow and portcfgshow Help page changes to support Fabric OS 5.3.0 additions. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 Man page for hadump - Example in the help page does not match the actual output of the command. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 SNMP: GET swEventDescr fails. Error Indication in response: There is no such variable name in this MIB. Errindex: 1 Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.
Closed defect summary Solution Discovery Domain does not show all the DD’s that are members of DDSET when configured from usability wizard. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 On the "Configure DD" screen, when adding a new Discovery Domain (DD) and adding VT and VI, it also adds VT and VI from the existing DD. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.0 In "Zoneadmin" role, when ADs are configured, "set default mode" option (under zoning actions tab) should be disabled. Fixed in Fabric OS 6.0.
