CISCO MDS 9000 NX-OS RELEASE NOTES As part of the NX-OS 5.0(4d) image updates provided by HP, the Cisco MDS 9000 Family Release Notes for Cisco MDS NX-OS Release 5.0(4d) have been included in the bundle. For a complete list and detailed description of features included in the NX-OS 5.0(4d) release, refer to the Cisco release notes as appropriate. Note: For the latest supported HP storage products, refer to the HP StorageWorks Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge (SPOCK) website at http://www.hp.
NX-OS IMAGES AND MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE UPDATES Customers can receive updates via electronic download by using HP Support Center. This has replaced the previous software update portal, HP Software Update Manager (SUM), which was available online within the HP IT Resource Center (ITRC). For details see the HP Support Center FAQs at http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetPDF.aspx/c02761338.pdf HP Support Center works with HP Passport, HP's single-sign-in service spanning many websites on HP.com.
Care Packs or support agreements. They can be put into a SHARE and controlled just like a SAID. For more details on linking your entitlements see the HP Support Center FAQs at http://h20195.www2.hp.com/V2/GetPDF.aspx/c02761338.pdf 4.
Consult the appropriate Cisco MDS 9000 release notes for instructions on how to determine the current NX-OS version on your switch. FICON SUPPORT FICON is supported with NX-OS on the MDS 9100, 9200 and 9500 series switches. For supported versions and configurations refer to the C-series FICON Connectivity Stream on SPOCK website at http://www.hp.com/storage/spock. You must sign up for an HP Passport to be granted access.

MDS 9513 FABRIC-2 MODULE AND 8-Gbps MODULES The MDS 9513 supports two types of crossbar modules, a pair of Fabric-1 modules or a pair of Fabric-2 modules. Two Fabric-2 modules double the active backplane bandwidth to 192-Gbps full duplex per slot required for specific switching modules in the MDS 9513. The following guidelines must be considered: Fabric-1 modules are backward and forward compatible with SAN-OS and NX-OS. Fabric-2 modules are supported with SAN-OS 3.x and NX-OS.
ADDITIONAL MOUNTING REQUIREMENTS C-series Fabric Switches can be installed in all HP standard racks. Please note the following restrictions: Side-Rail Rack-Mounted Options All side-rail rack-mounted options must have a minimum of four (4) inch clearance distance above or below the switch chassis for the C-series MDS 9500 Series Multilayer Directors and MDS 9200 Series Multilayer Fabric Switches. Side-rail rack-mount options include HP zero-U options, KVM switches and power distribution units (PDUs).
SERIAL PORT You must use the serial interface to configure a switch IP address. Refer to the Cisco MDS 9000 Family Configuration Guide for instructions on how to connect the serial port to a host machine. INITIAL INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS/REQUIREMENTS The C-series MDS 9000 Family of switches does not automatically allow SAN connectivity for the first-time, out-of-the box power up. For more comprehensive initial setup information, please refer to the Cisco documentation found at http://www.cisco.com.
IV. Enable In-Order Delivery of Frame During a steady-state environment, the hardware and software architecture of the C-series MDS 9000 Family prevents out-of-order (OOO) frame distribution from occurring. If the fabric encounters a failure, some devices may not be able to handle any OOO frames. For this reason, HP requires in-order delivery (IOD) be enabled for all switches. There is a switch setting to enable in-order of frames during fabric failure.
FABRIC MANAGER & DEVICE MANAGER GUI SETUP The optional Cisco Fabric/Device Manager GUI (graphical user interface) is a Java application. The Fabric/Device Manager installation process is based on requirements for installing Java Web Start. Refer to the Cisco MDS 9000 Fabric Manager Release Notes for system requirements and installation instructions. To install Device Manager, use a web browser to make an http:// connection to the IP address of a C-series switch.
CISCO MDS 9000 N-PORT VIRTUALIZATION (NPV) MODE N-Port Virtualization (NPV) Mode is a software feature that can be optionally enabled on the Cseries MDS 9124, MDS 9134, MDS 9124e, and SN6000C Fabric Switches. Switches operating in NPV mode do not join a fabric; rather, they pass traffic between NPV core switch links and end devices.

For additional information on how to install SME refer to the Cisco MDS 9000 Family Storage Media Encryption Configuration Guide. FC AND FCIP WRITE ACCELERATION FEATURE MUST NOT BE ENABLED WHEN IMPLEMENTING CONTINUOUS ACCESS ENTERPRISE VIRTUAL ARRAY Continuous Access Enterprise Virtual Array includes an FC/FCIP write acceleration feature. For this reason, Cisco’s FC and FCIP write acceleration must not be enabled in a Continuous Access EVA environment. By default Cisco NX-OS write acceleration is disabled.
4. Enter the following command to enter the VSAN database: switch(config)# vsan database 5. Enter the following command to enable the VSAN(s) that contain the Continuous Access EVA and/or DRM fabric to src-dst-id loadbalancing: switch(config-vsan-db)# vsan <1-4094> loadbalancing src-dst-id switch(config-vsan-db)# exit switch(config)# exit 6.
Note: It is recommended to set the mezzanine adapter to the desired port speed instead of using the default speed of auto. 8Gb mezzanine cards for HP BladeSystem c-Class require a SerDes field update The Emulex LPe1205 and QLogic QMH2562 require a SerDes update when used with the Cisco MDS 8Gb fabric switch for HP BladeSystem c-Class. The SerDes update adjusts the transmit and receive parameters stored in the fibre channel SerDes table on each 8Gb mezzanine adapter.
Note: For additional switch support information, refer to the C-series FC Switch Connectivity Stream on SPOCK. How to acquire a port license on the Cisco MDS 8Gb Fabric Switch for HP BladeSystem cClass 1. Log into the switch using either the management console or telnet 2. 32 4-Gbps and 2 10-Gbps active ports; a 64-port stable solution is available with the purchase of two of these products. C-SERIES MDS 9124 FABRIC SWITCH The MDS 9124 switches have fixed configurations with 8, 16, and 24 full rate 4-Gbps fibre channel ports. The 8 and 16 port switches can be upgraded up to 24-ports in 8 port increments with an on demand port activation license.
6. Enter the following command to verify the desired port acquires a license: switch# show port-license 7. Copy the running configuration into the startup configuration by entering the following: switch# copy running-config startup-config Note: The running configuration overwrites the startup configuration.
The following is a procedure to outline the required steps to complete the replacement/upgrade successfully: 1. Save and backup the running configuration of the 2Gb module. switch# copy running start 2. Carefully record VSAN layout and corresponding fibre channel connections to the module, as they need to be configured manually on the replacement module. switch# show vsan membership 3. Remove fibre channel cables and remove the 2Gb module. 4. Insert the replacement 4Gb or 8Gb module. 5.
UPGRADE FROM 14/2 MULTIPROTOCOL SERVICES MODULE TO 18/4 MULTISERVICE MODULE The replacement of the 14/2 Multiprotocol Services module with the 18/4 Multiservice module must be treated as an upgrade. Considerations must be taken to ensure that the configuration can be implemented on the new module. Please refer to the Cisco MDS 9000 CLI Configuration Guide for procedures to configure the new modules.
