SN8000C 13-SLOT SUPERVISOR 2A DIRECTOR AND MDS 9513 DIRECTORS FABRIC3 MODULE AND 8-Gbps ADVANCED SWITCHING MODULES The SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Directors and the HP Cisco MDS 9513 Director Switch support the HP SN8000C Fabric 3 Director Module (QW926A). These crossbar modules provide 512 Gbps active backplane full duplex bandwidth per slot as required for specific switching modules in the MDS 9513 and SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Directors.
The following guidelines must be considered when using the HP SN8000C Fabric 3 Director Module, HP SN8000C 8Gb 48-Port Advanced Fibre Channel Module and the HP SN8000C 8Gb 32-Port Advanced Fibre Channel Module: HP SN8000C Fabric 3 Director Module is supported only with Cisco NX-OS Release 5.2(2) or a later release. You cannot use any Generation 4 8-Gbps Advanced Fibre Channel module in a director until you upgrade to NX-OS Release 5.2(2) or a later release.
MDS 9513 FABRIC-2 MODULE AND 8-Gbps MODULES The MDS 9513 supports two types of crossbar modules, a pair of Fabric-1 modules or a pair of Fabric-2 modules. Two Fabric-2 modules double the active backplane bandwidth to 192-Gbps full duplex per slot required for specific switching modules in the MDS 9513. The following guidelines must be considered: Fabric-1 modules are backward and forward compatible with SAN-OS and NX-OS. Fabric-2 modules are supported with SAN-OS 3.x and NX-OS.
ADDITIONAL MOUNTING REQUIREMENTS C-series Fabric Switches can be installed in all HP standard racks. Please note the following restrictions: Side-Rail Rack-Mounted Options All side-rail rack-mounted options must have a minimum of four (4) inch clearance distance above or below the switch chassis for the C-series MDS 9500 Series Multilayer Directors and MDS 9200 Series Multilayer Fabric Switches. Side-rail rack-mount options include HP zero-U options, KVM switches and power distribution units (PDUs).
SERIAL PORT You must use the serial interface to configure a switch IP address. Refer to the Cisco MDS 9000 Family Configuration Guide for instructions on how to connect the serial port to a host machine. INITIAL INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS/REQUIREMENTS The C-series MDS 9000 Family of switches does not automatically allow SAN connectivity for the firsttime, out-of-the box power up. For more comprehensive initial setup information, please refer to the Cisco documentation found at http://www.cisco.com.
IV. Enable In-Order Delivery of Frame During a steady-state environment, the hardware and software architecture of the C-series MDS 9000 Family prevents out-of-order (OOO) frame distribution from occurring. If the fabric encounters a failure, some devices may not be able to handle any OOO frames. For this reason, HP requires inorder delivery (IOD) be enabled for all switches. There is a switch setting to enable in-order of frames during fabric failure.
DATA CENTER NETWORK MANAGER & DEVICE MANAGER GUI SETUP Cisco Fabric Manager and Cisco Data Center Network Manager (DCNM) have merged into a unified product that can now manage and monitor both SAN and LAN environments. As a part of this merger, Cisco Fabric Manager has been rebranded as Cisco DCNM for SAN. DCNM for SAN introduces server-based licenses that allow you to purchase a pool of DCNM for SAN licenses instead of a switch-based Fabric Manager Server (FMS) license.
Detailed information about these new features is available in the Cisco DCNM Release Notes, Release 6.2(1), and in the feature configuration guides for DCNM for SAN. The release notes are included in the NX-OS image software updates, available as described in NX-OS Images and management Software Updates. DCNM for SAN is not embedded in the NX-OS software. DCNM for SAN is provided by HP in the NXOS image bundle.
CISCO MDS 9000 N-PORT VIRTUALIZATION (NPV) MODE N-Port Virtualization (NPV) Mode is a software feature that can be optionally enabled on the C-series MDS 9124, MDS 9134, MDS 9124e, and SN6000C Fabric Switches. Switches operating in NPV mode do not join a fabric; rather, they pass traffic between NPV core switch links and end devices.

FC AND FCIP WRITE ACCELERATION FEATURE MUST NOT BE ENABLED WHEN IMPLEMENTING CONTINUOUS ACCESS ENTERPRISE VIRTUAL ARRAY Continuous Access Enterprise Virtual Array includes an FC/FCIP write acceleration feature. For this reason, Cisco’s FC and FCIP write acceleration must not be enabled in a Continuous Access EVA environment. By default Cisco NX-OS write acceleration is disabled. FCIP TAPE ACCELERATION NX-OS FCIP Tape Acceleration (Write & Read) is disabled by default.

The Emulex LPe1205 and QLogic QMH2562 require a SerDes update when used with the Cisco MDS 8Gb fabric switch for HP BladeSystem c-Class. The SerDes update adjusts the transmit and receive parameters stored in the fibre channel SerDes table on each 8Gb mezzanine adapter. A SerDes update is not required for 4Gb mezzanine cards. QMH2562 Rev D or newer does not require a SerDes update. LPe1205 Rev 0C or newer does not require a SerDes update.
switch login: admin Password: 3. Enter the following command to verify which ports are eligible to receive a license: switch# show port-license 4. Enter into the configuration mode by entering the following command: switch# config terminal 5. Enter the following commands to enable a port license: In this example, bay2 acquires a port license.
C-SERIES MDS 9124e FABRIC SWITCH FOR HP C-CLASS BLADESYSTEM The MDS 9124e 12-port fabric switch and the MDS 9124e 24-port fabric switch for HP c-Class BladeSystem have fixed configurations with 8-internal/4-external or 16-internal/8-external full rate 4-Gbps fibre channel ports. The 12-port switch can be upgraded to the 24-port switch with an on demand port activation license. Note: Refer to HP.com for the latest supported software for the fibre channel adapters and c-Class Onboard Administrator firmware.
UPGRADE FROM 14/2 MULTIPROTOCOL SERVICES MODULE TO 18/4 MULTISERVICE MODULE The replacement of the 14/2 Multiprotocol Services module with the 18/4 Multiservice module must be treated as an upgrade. Considerations must be taken to ensure that the configuration can be implemented on the new module. Please refer to the Cisco MDS 9000 CLI Configuration Guide for procedures to configure the new modules.
HP SPECIFIC KNOWN ISSUES Problem Description: HP Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) P6000 is getting detected as “host” instead of “storage” in the DCNM 6.1(1a), 6.2(1) Device Type. At this instance LUNs which are presented from HP Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) P6000 will not be visible in the presented hosts. This issue is irrespective of host operating system. Workaround: Changing the device type to “storage” in the Local full zone database of DCNM and rescanning the host system will resolve this issue. 1.
Problem Description: HP C-class fibre channel mezzanine cards may not log into the embedded C-series fibre channel switch at the supported speed and mode. Workaround: Set the internal switch port from auto to the supported speed and mode. Problem Description: The SN1000E 16Gb Emulex HBA properties may display as “Unknown” vendor in Data Center Network Manager Host Ports list.
