Chapter 2 System Messages and Recovery Procedures for the Cisco MDS 9000 Family
Error Message PORT-5-IF_DOWN_ELP_FAILURE_ISOLATION_UNKNOWN_FLOW_CTL_CODE:
Interface [chars] is down (Isolation due to ELP failure: invalid flow control
code).
Explanation
Exchange link parameter (ELP) failed on the interface because of an invalid flow control
code.
Recommended Action Configure the attached switch port correctly and try again.

Error Message PORT-5-IF_DOWN_ELP_FAILURE_ISOLATION_UNKNOWN_FLOW_CTL_PARAM:
Interface [chars] is down (Isolation due to ELP failure: invalid flow control

Exchange link parameter (ELP) failed on the interface because of an invalid flow control
parameter .
Recommended Action Configure the attached switch port correctly and try again.

- EPP Failure).
Explanation
Trunk protocol failed.
Recommended Action Enter the show port internal event-history msgs CLI command or use a
similar Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure to see the trunk protocol exchanges and
determine why it failed.

disabled).
Explanation
The interface encountered an error while configuring it.
Recommended Action Enter the show port internal all interface CLI command or use a similar
Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure to collect more information about the failed interface.
In most cases, you can recover by entering the shutdown and no shutdown CLI command or similar
Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure on the interface. If that does not work, remove and
reinsert the fiber cable.
