Chapter 2 System Messages and Recovery Procedures for the Cisco MDS 9000 Family
Error Message PORT-5-IF_DOWN_SUSPENDED_BY_WWN: Interface [chars] is down (Suspended
due to incompatible remote switch WWN).
Explanation This interface belongs to a PortChannel and the remote switch WWN of the interface
is different from that of the PortChannel.
Recommended Action Ensure that this interface is connected to the same remote switch as all the
other interfaces in the PortChannel.

Error Message PORT-5-IF_DOWN_TCP_KEEP_ALIVE_EXPIRED: Interface [chars] is down(TCP
conn. closed - Keep alive expired).
Explanation The TCP session to the FCIP peer was closed because of the loss of the TCP keep alive.
Recommended Action You may have lost IP connection. Enter the show interface and show ip route
CLI commands or use a similar Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure to provide the IP
address of the peer and the route used to connect to this FCIP peer. Enter the traceries ipaddr CLI
command or use a similar Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure to check the connectivity to
the peer.

Error Message PORT-5-IF_DOWN_TCP_MAX_RETRANSMIT: Interface [chars] is down(TCP conn.
closed - retransmit failure).
Explanation Interface is down buckeye it reached the maximum allowed retransmission failures.
Recommended Action This may be because of a loss of IP connectivity. Enter the show interface,
show ip route CLI commands or use a similar Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure to
provide the IP address of the peer and the route used to connect to this FCIP peer. Enter the
traceroute ipaddr CLI command or use a similar Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure to
check the connectivity to the peer.

Error Message PORT-5-IF_DOWN_TCP_PERSIST_TIMER_EXPIRED: Interface [chars] is
down(TCP conn. closed - Persist timer expired).
Explanation
TCP session to the FCIP peer closed because the TCP persist timer expired.
Recommended Action You may have lost IP connection. Enter the show interface, show ip route CLI
commands or use a similar Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure to provide the IP address of
the peer and the route used to connect to this FC IP peer. Enter the traceroute ipaddr CLI command
or use a similar Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure to check the connection to the peer.
