Chapter 2 System Messages and Recovery Procedures for the Cisco MDS 9000 Family
Error Message SPAN-5-STATELESS_RESTART_ON_ACTIVE: Span is restarting as Span on
active sup was restarted stateless.
Explanation Because of an unrecoverable error, the switched port analyzer (SPAN) on the active
supervisor was restarted stateless. So, the standby SPAN restarts to get in sync with the stateless
SPAN on the active supervisor.
Recommended Action No action is required.

SPAN-6
Error Message SPAN-6-SESSION_DOWN: Session [dec] is inactive ([chars]).
Explanation Session is inactive now. Traffic for this session is no longer spanned.
Recommended Action Check the reason for session inactivity by entering the show span session CLI
command or by using a similar Fabric Manager/Device Manager procedure.

Error Message SPAN-6-SESSION_UP: Session [dec] is active, destination SD port
[chars].
Explanation
Session is active now. You can monitor spanned traffic at the destination SD port.

switchover.
Explanation
Active sessions are not preserved across switchover. The switched port analyzer
(SPAN) is starting stateless and the configuration will be reapplied to get back the active
configuration.
