Chapter 2 System Messages and Recovery Procedures for the Cisco MDS 9000 Family
Error Message ETHPORT-5-IF_DOWN_TCP_MAX_RETRANSMIT: Interface [chars] is down(TCP
conn. closed - retransmit failure).
Explanation Interface is down due to a maximum retransmission failure.
Recommended Action This may be due to loss of IP connectivity. Enter the show interface and show
ip route CLI commands to provide the IP address of the peer and the route used to connect to this
FCIP peer. Enter traceroute [ipaddr] to check the connectivity to the peer. You can alternatively use
Fabric Manager and/or Device Manager instead of the command line method.

Error Message ETHPORT-5-IF_DOWN_TCP_PERSIST_TIMER_EXPIRED: Interface [chars] is
down(TCP conn. closed - Persist timer expired).
Explanation The TCP session to the FCIP peer closed because the TCP persist timer expired.
Recommended Action This may be due to loss of IP connectivity. Enter the show interface and show
ip route commands to provide the IP address of the peer and the route used to connect to this FCIP
peer. Enter traceroute [ipaddr] to check the connectivity to the peer. You can also use a similar Fabric
Manager/Device Manager procedure to provide the IP address of the peer and check the connection to
the peer.

Error Message ETHPORT-5-IF_DOWN_UPGRADE_IN_PROGRESS: Interface [chars] is down
(Linecard upgrade in progress).
Explanation A line card software upgrade is in progress.

Error Message ETHPORT-5-IF_DOWN_VSAN_MISMATCH_ISOLATION: Interface [chars] is down
(Isolation due to VSAN mismatch).
Explanation
This is a trunking interface and the VSANs configured here do not match the VSANs
configured on the remote end.
Recommended Action Check the VSANs configured on the local end with the remote end.

down (Isolation due to zone merge failure).
Explanation
