UPGRADE FROM 2Gb FIBRE CHANNEL SWITCHING
MODULES TO 4Gb AND/OR 8Gb FIBRE CHANNEL
SWITCHING MODULES
C-series MDS 9000 2Gb switch modules in 16-port and 32-port configurations, 32-port 2Gb
Storage Services Module (SSM), and the 14/2 Multiprotocol Services module have reached their
end of life and are no longer sold or supported with NX-OS 5.x. Customers wishing to replace
their 2Gb 16-port and 32-port switching modules have the option of upgrading to the following
4Gb and/or 8Gb technology:
4Gb configurations
o 12-port 4Gb switching module
o 24-port 4Gb switching module
o 48-port 4Gb switching module
8Gb configurations
o 24-port 8Gb switching module
o 48-port 8Gb high-performance switching module
o 48-port 8Gb host-optimized switching module
The 14/2 Multiprotocol Services module can be replaced by the 18/4 Multiservice module. There
are a few necessary steps to complete this replacement successfully:
Transfer of configuration and VSAN layout from the old switching module to the new
switch module.
Transfer of configuration of IP storage ports from the old 14/2 Multiprotocol Services
module to the new 18/4 Multiservice module.
The 32-port 2Gb Storage Services Module (SSM) can be replaced by the 18/4 Multiservice
module or the MDS 9222i Multilayer Fabric Switch.
Upgrade of 2Gb 16 and 32-port modules to 4Gb and/or 8Gb switching modules:
The replacement of the 2Gb 16 and 32-port switching modules with the 4Gb and/or 8Gb
switching modules must be treated as an upgrade from one module to another. Please refer to the
Cisco MDS 9000 CLI Configuration Guide for procedures to configure the new modules.
