HP ProLiant Cluster HA/F500
Enhanced DT
This installation poster demonstrates an HA/F500 Enhanced DT
cluster configuration. Your configuration may look different than
the figures represented. Refer to the HP Continuous Access for
EVA Reference Guide for other configuration possibilities.
The major hardware components referenced in this poster are:
Two HP ProLiant servers (supported servers can be found at
http://www.hp.com/servers/proliant/highavailability)
At least two, but no more than eight, HP StorageWorks
Enterprise Virtual Array (EVA) storage systems
HP StorageWorks storage area network (SAN) switches
Fiber distributed data interface (FDDI)/Fibre Channel over
Internet Protocol (FCIP) network interconnect
Longwave fiber link/FCIP link between switches
Shortwave fiber link from switches to servers and storage
Two Fibre Channel Adapter (FCA) cards for each server
Two HP OpenView Storage Management Appliances
(SMA) (two per site is recommended for high availability)
Necessary software:
HP SmartStart CD
HP StorageWorks Platform Kit for EVA
HP StorageWorks Secure Path for Windows®
HSV Element Manager
HP StorageWorks Continuous Access User Interface
Microsoft® Cluster Service (MSCS)
Base Configuration
Data is mirrored in one direction, from Host A (source)
to Host B (destination).
Refer to the HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA Design
Reference Guide for supported configurations and cabling.
Bidirectional Configuration
Independent disk groups can be mirrored in either direction. In
the illustration, data is mirrored in two directions, from storage
system A (source) to storage system B (destination), and storage
system B (source) to storage system A (destination).
Installation Instructions
Refer to the HP ProLiant Cluster HA/F500 for EVA Enhanced
DT Supplement Guide included in this kit for detailed
installation instructions.
Installing the Servers
1. Set up the EVA storage system hardware.
NOTE: Step 1 is performed by an HP Authorized Service Provider.
2. Install and verify intersite links and connect to switches with
Gigabit Interface Converters (GBICs) or small form factor
pluggables (SFPs).
3. Make fabric connections:
Connect GBICs or SFPs to switch ports.
Connect HSV controller pair, SMAs, and hosts to Fibre
Channel fabrics.
4. Install FCAs.
All servers must have at least one pair, and not more than
three pairs, of single channel FCAs, or the equivalent in
dual channel FCAs. For detailed installation instructions,
refer to the documentation that comes in the host kit or with
your adapter.
5. Install Secure Path.
6. Install device drivers and Fibre Channel drivers, if
required.
7. Upgrade drivers if necessary, using the appropriate
software upgrade utility.
