— If existing NCS software is being upgraded, the program upgrades clustering
software on the servers.
Creating Shared Disk Partitions
The following information is also available from the Novell website at
http://support.novell.com/index.html.
IMPORTANT: Before creating disk partitions on a storage area network, you must install
Novell Cluster Services. If you created partitions on your storage area network before installing
Novell Cluster Services, those partitions must be deleted and then re-created after Novell
Cluster Services is installed. Carefully plan how you want to configure your shared storage
before installing Novell Cluster Services.
To create a shared disk partition on a storage area network:
1. Start ConsoleOne and authenticate to the NDS tree where the Cluster object
resides.
NOTE: ConsoleOne runs faster from a client than from a server. Novell recommends
running ConsoleOne from a client to perform cluster-related actions.
2. In the left pane, right-click the server object of a server in the cluster and then
click Properties.
3. On the Media tab, click Devices and then select the device where you want to
create the shared partition. Verify Sharable for Clustering is selected.
Device names are not changeable and might be labeled, for example, 0x2 or 0x1.
If Cluster Services was previously installed and shared disk partitions were
already created, the Partitions List field will include this information. If
partitions were already created and were not made shareable at creation time, you
might have to initialize shared disks, which deletes and re-creates partitions. This
initialization is necessary to make partitions shareable for clustering.
4. On the Media tab, click Partitions, click New, and then select the device
where you want to create the partition (the same device you selected in the
previous step).
5. Specify the size of the partition and click OK to create it.
