7. As soon as the other node brings the cluster group online, a response
similar to the one noted in Step 4 should be returned. If the client
successfully accessed the failed-over IP address, the cluster is working.
If the client was unsuccessful, either the cluster group was not
configured correctly, the failover did not occur, or the PING command
was performed before the failover activity completed.
NOTE: To verify a more extreme case, rather than fail over the IP address, power down
the primary cluster node and verify that the resource fails over to the other node.
Setting Up Cluster Groups
and Cluster Resources
When the clustering hardware has been set up and configured, and Microsoft
Windows NT 4.0 Server Enterprise Edition and Cluster Server have been
installed on both servers, then the applications to use the capabilities of
clustering can be set up.
Configuring the applications will be a straightforward task, if clustering needs
have been defined correctly and the applications and environment have been
determined.
Although details of the setup procedures are beyond the scope of this guide,
several documents are available from Microsoft and Compaq to assist with
these final steps.
The best source of information concerning the steps to configure cluster
groups and cluster resources is Microsofts Cluster Server Administrators
Guide.
