DLTtape drives are designed and licensed for exclusive use with tape cartridges sold by licensed suppliers.
These licensed suppliers are identified by their use of the DLTtape logo. Both the tape drive and tape
cartridges are covered by U.S. patent numbers 4,572,460, 4,720,913 and 4,662,049. Use of
unlicensed tape cartridges with licensed or unlicensed tape drives constitutes infringement in the U.S.
of these patents and is prohibited. If you do not agree to the terms of this license, you may return the
unused product to the supplier within ten days of purchase for a full refund.
when to use a cleaning cartridge
If the ‘Use Cleaning Tape‘ light is
ON, then the DLT
drive’s read/write head needs cleaning.
cleaning cartridge storage
To prevent condensation and for long life, the cartridge
should only be operated or stored as follows:
archive storage
For longer life of the cleaning cartridge, always store the cleaning cartridge in its plastic container
and in room environment conditions of 73°F
+
-
9°F (23°C
+
-
5°C), 50%
+
-
10% relative humidity.
cartridge handling
Handle the cartridge carefully. The cartridge may be damaged if it is dropped so always check for damage.
Labels should go only in the front label slot. Do not put any labels on the top, bottom, sides or rear of the
cartridge. When not in use, the cartridge should be stored in its protective plastic container. Do not store the
cartridge in direct sunlight or near magnetic fields.
loading and unloading a DLT drive
Consult your respective DLT drive user manual to obtain information on loading and unloading DLT
cartridges. IMPORTANT: Make sure the leader position is correct (see Figure 1 below); if not, the
cartridge is broken and should be discarded. Shake the cartridge gently; if you hear a rattling sound,
discard. Broken cartridges can seriously damage your DLT drive and their use should be avoided.
using a cleaning cartridge with DLT magazine tape subsystems
If ‘Use Cleaning Tape‘ light is
ON, insert the cleaning cartridge into the magazine slot, load the
magazine, and manually select the slot which has the cleaning cartridge. Press the ‘Load/Unload‘
button. The cleaning cartridge will load and cleaning will begin automatically. When ‘Use Cleaning
Tape‘ light shuts
OFF, a cleaning cycle is complete. To remove the cleaning cartridge from the subsystem,
press the ‘Eject‘ button, remove the magazine from the subsystem, and remove the cleaning cartridge
from the magazine. If the ‘Use Cleaning Tape‘ light remains
ON, then a cleaning cycle has NOT been
done, and the cleaning cartridge is expired and must be replaced. After each cleaning cartridge use,
follow the instructions shown on the Front Slide Label.
