The Get H eld Messages Notes application recovers mail.box messages that are in the Hold or Dead
state, so they can be used for IAP and EAs diagnostics.
After the application recovers a held message from mail.box, it resubmits the message to the router
several times, giving it another chance to be delivered.
The number of retries can be configured. After the maximum number of retries, the message is saved in
Get Held Messages and is not returned to mail.box.
During the IA P system installation, you will work with the HP service representative to set up the application.
It is installed on the gate way server, which transfers messages from a Domino domain to the IAP system.
Using the application
The following steps should be taken after messages have accumulate d:
1. In the Domi
no Administrator client, open the Get Held Messages database
(hprim\get_held_messages.nsf) in the Domino data directory.
2. Examine the Held Mail views, looking for undeliverable messages that were found in mail.box.
3. IntheFilemenu,selectDatabase > New Copy to create a complete copy of the database.
The copy of the Get H eld M essages database can be sent to HP for diagnosis of the held m essages.
After making a copy of the database, you c an remove captured messages that you no longer want.
1. Make sure you are in one of the Held Mail views, or you will delete other documents.
2. Select m
essages for deletion by clicking them in the left margin.
You can s
elect several messages quickly by dragging the mouse in the left margin.
3. Press th
e Delete key to m ark the selected m essages for deletion.
4. Press F9 or Esc to delete the m essages.
As the mail capture agent runs, it writes various status m essages to the server log file. You can view these
messages by examining the Domino log (log.nsf) and looking for the string Get Held Messages.
