Remote and local mining
EAs Domino software can be installed on:
HP gateway servers
This t ype of configuration is known as remote mining. All archiving operations occur on the
gateway server in the external domain. Messages are mined from mail files and/or journal
mail-in d a
tabases on Domino servers in the Dom ino domain. In remote mining, the gateway m ay
be referr
ed to as the HP Active Gate way, since it processes messages and routes them to the IAP.
Remote mi
ning provides a zero or n e a r-zero* footprint on your production mail servers, because
no archiving c ode is required on the mail servers.
* If you implement Advanced Filtering (HP EAs Domi no journaling) to meet compliance
requ irements, a subset of the EAs files is installed on e ach server from which journal mail-in
files are archived.
Domino j
ournal or application servers
This configuration supports:
Remote mining of mail files
•Remoteo
r local mining of journal mail-in databases
All archiving operations occur on the journal server, which must be within the Domino domain.
Messages are routed to the IAP by the HP gateway server.
Domino
production mail servers
This type of configuration is known as local mining. Archiving operations occur on the same
Domino servers where the mail files and journal mail-in databases are located. In local mining,
the H P gateway server may be referred to as the HP Passive Gateway. Its main task is to route
messages to the IAP.
NOTE:
Serve
rs that mine and process messages for archiving can also be called
message pro cessing servers
,or
MP ser
vers, a term that you will see frequently in this guide. M essage processing servers can be gateway
serve
rs, journal or application servers, or mail servers, depending on your archiving conguration.
