Configuring the MAC address table
3
Adding static addresses to the MAC address table
To add a static address to the MAC address table, perform the following steps from Privileged EXEC
mode:
Clearing dynamically learned MAC addresses
To clear the MAC address table of all dynamically learned MAC addresses, perform the following
tasks from Privileged EXEC mode:
Step Task Command
1. Enter global configuration mode. switch#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per
line. End with CNTL/Z.
switch(config)#
2. Add a static address to the MAC address
table. Syntax is as follows:
• static mac-addr—Specifies the MAC
address (unicast or multicast) to add to
the MAC address table. Packets with
this destination address received in the
specified VLAN are forwarded to the
specified interface.
• forward—Forwards the MAC address to
the specified interface.
• port-channel number—Specifies the
port-channel number. The range is 1
through 63.
• tengigabitethernet slot/port—Specifies
a 10-Gigabit Ethernet CEE port.
• vlan vlan-id—Specifies the VLAN
number. The range is 1 through 3583.
NOTE: The vlan keyword is mandatory
because the switch only supports
Independent VLAN Learning (IVL).
switch(config)#mac-address-table {static mac-addr}
{forward {port-channel number | tengigabitethernet
slot/port} vlan vlan-id}
3. Display the static MAC addresses. switch(config)#show mac-address-table static
Task Command
Clear dynamically learned MAC addresses. switch#clear mac-address-table dynamic [{address
mac_address} | {interface {port-channel number} |
{tengigabitethernet slot/port}} | {vlan vlan_number}]
